This thread is over-due, was suppose to make this since Level-5 announced that a sequel to "Youkai Watch" would've happen. I'm just gonna round out the details of this highly anticipated title:

So today Level-5 published new Youkai Watch 2 details today covering multiplayer and more:
“Youkai Watch Busters” mode

  • Different from the turn-based RPG style
  • Supports up to 4 players
  • Fight demons in a full-scale action game
  • Choose a course, a youkai to play as
  • You then proceed to the exit within the time limit with other players
  • You’ll find many demons patrolling along the way
  • Game over if health hits zero
  • Get different end-course rewards depending on how many “Demon Orbs” you pick up

Standard multiplayer mode

  • Fight against other players in turn-based RPG battles
  • Play against friends or people you don’t know online
  • Trade youkai online as well

Other details

  • A Lost Grandma – a grandma is lost; help her get to where she needs to be for a reward
  • Whimsy Gates – discover a number of gates throughout town, each with a different mission to complete
  • One Whimsy Gate might task you with clearing a certain number of enemies,
  • Another might give you a time limit, or pit you against a powerful boss enemy
  • Earn a “Gate Ball” each time you clear a gate
  • Get a special reward if you collect a lot of them
  • Oden Food Carts – At night, Oden food carts will always appear somewhere in town
  • Although there are some human-run food carts, you’ll also come across the food cart of yokai Oden Jin, who’s searching for the finest ingredients for his oden
  • Fox Marital Processions – When you come upon fox spirit weddings taking place, you must keep your human status from being exposed
  • To do that, you’ll have to adopt the same poses that the foxes on screen, as well catch fireballs that pop out by spinning the outer circle on the touch screen
  • Wandering Tunnel – There is a tunnel in the mountains whose length changes each time you enter
  • No one knows where it ends, and you can only enter once a day
  • Mystery of the Bulletin Board – Mysterious bulletin boards will appear all over town
  • If you solve their riddles, a monster will be summoned, which can have various effects
  • Ex: Robo-Nyan breaking through a rock that blocked the player from progressing where he previously could not
  • Those who purchase both versions of the game can access a special dungeon
Even though this game looks amazing, I'm still waiting and hoping for Youkai Watch (1) to get localized in North America & Europe, I think NA and EU audiences would love this game, and it's predecessor.

You said all. We just need it localized, like 75% of the Japan-only games.
Yet, it already looks fun and interesting.

I love Youkai Watch, it's totally my type of game, but as much as i'd love for it to be localized, i just think that there will be a small percent of chance of it being localized, because yokais are like monsters in japanese folklore and i don't think there are many people in the NA & EU region will know much about the term "Yokai" so it can be a difficult challenge for them. But i could be wrong though, the game is fun and it's also different, and as far as i know, there are many people who loves the game and hoping for it to be localized, so it could be a big hit when it comes to the west.

Don't worry about this. If the game was to be localized, they would surely tell people what a Yôkai is. And those who don't know will be redirected to Wikipédia for the Japanese Mythology.

We got a lot of information on this game in a Nintendo Direct that was dedicated to this title. This is the summary of that Direct:
  • Direct was hosted by Level-5 president Akihiro Hino
  • Explained a lot of the gameplay mechanics and concepts, many of which we’ve seen before
  • Demonstrates a lot of the cross-media aspects relating to the anime, manga and other lines
  • World appears to be more expansive than in the first game
  • Riding the train in-game will bring you to new locations not available in the regular world (such as a beach or rural town)
  • One of the new Youkai’s is an Onigiri Samurai
  • The game features various mini-games such as bike racing
  • Bosses can join your team, an example was shown in a bath house setting
  • Multiplayer net-play is available for regular battles and the new Youkai Watch busters mode where you play as Youkai ( )
  • There are multiple version of Youkai Watch 2, preseumably with their own special Youkai
  • DLC will be featured in the game but it appears to be free
  • Special content available for those who owned the original
  • A special version of the Youkai Jibanyan will be available depending on whether you download or buy the packaged copy of the game
This is the Nintendo Direct (fully Japanese):
We also got three new commercials, that are really cute:
(extended)

This game seems better every time there's a news about it.
Shame that our chances to get it are few... :( Stupid Region Lock*.

And you said that they will be Yôkais that will be version-exclusive, so maybe the developers want to take an aspect a la Pokémon (multiple versions) ?

(*At this rate, we'll have to do American + European only games, just to make them know how painful region lock is :p. That's true, they have every single 3DS game in existence !)

Whether Level-5 don't want to take risk bringing this title to the West or what... Since Fantasy Life came here by Ninty's help. Oh, and yes: this game is sold to (most likely) children, that could be a factor.
Nevertheless, this is a new successful IP, like what Level-5 did to Inazuma Eleven. But I still have hope for localisation T.T

Well... youkai(ようかい) just means ghost or monster in japanese. If they localize, i think they will not put yokai instead of ghost, they might explain what yokai means in nintendo direct just like what they do with ''tomodachi'' life. :)
''youkai watch'' is a cartoon (comic also) in japan, you can watch it on youtube:
, it's episode one with eng sub.

I know, but they might still keep the original name, who knows ?
By the way, just added the anime to my watchlist.

Anyway, the game is already released 2 days ago (July 10th in Japan). The first one million seller this year, because even the retailers stop preorder due to the limited stock.

It isn't as great as Pokemon, but this IP is getting bigger. Level-5 should thank to Japanese children XD
