Game Boy Color Virtual Console Review (3DS eShop)

Game Boy Color Virtual Console Review (3DS eShop)

Like it happened with the NES and the SNES, it was time for the Game Boy to have an upgrade. Having the same design, the main new feature of the console was on its name: the Game Boy Color. Considering the use of batteries, it was a big challenge for Nintendo to do a big autonomy, but thanks to technology optimization it was possible.

Just like the non-color console, the console also reached the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo 3DS.

PRO: The controls
Again, the controls work great, there’s no lag nor problems when playing and the same buttons are used from the original console.

PRO: The presentation
Déjà vu! Every Virtual Console title includes a manual including the game’s explanation (like controls, gameplay, etc), including the service itself. Remember to read it before starting!

PRO: Suspend Feature
When you exit the game, it will be suspended. Once you start it again, you will be able to start where you left off.

MIX: Save States
Again, I have to mention the “restore point”. It works as a save state, allowing you to go back every time you want to. Sadly, there is no button for ‘load’ and ‘save a state’. There is also a limit of one restore point.

CON: Features Integration
Another repeated thing: some features are missing that could be offered with the 3DS’ capabilities, like the multiplayer features, where the Game Link Cable can be easily emulated with a wireless connection.

CONCLUSION:
Like the Game Boy virtual console, its well done in overall. There are great games for the system, still some features will be locked due to the missing console features.

Eric enjoys playing video games in his 3DS XL and Wii U. Platform, puzzles and RPG are his favorites. He doesn't care if a game is 1080p or 720p, it only needs to be fun.
