How to Unlock Octolings Online in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

You might want to play as an Octoling in online play as fast as possible. This guide teaches you how to skip levels in Splatoon 2’s Octo Expansion DLC.

Step 1:

First, choose a level you want to skip and enter it. To do this, pay the fee to start the level and splat yourself until you run out of lives. When you run out of lives, this screen should appear:

Game Over: Continue - Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

Step 2:

At the bottom-right corner, there should be a button that says ‘50%’. Press the ‘continue from last checkpoint’ button, paying the level fee again, and splat yourself till the ‘continue’ screen pops up again.

The 50% button at the bottom-right corner of your screen should now be an ‘ask for help’ button. Press ‘X’ and Marina will hack the system so it thinks that you beat the level.

Step 3:

The ‘continue from checkpoint’ button will now be replaced by a ‘Pass’ button. You have to pay the level fee one more time, but it instantly takes you to the finish and allows you to move to the next node on the map.

There are some consequences to this to be aware of. First, this costs 3 times the level fee, therefore you should make sure you have the points to pay. You do get the reward points for finishing it, however, in some levels you still make a profit while in others, a loss. Secondly, you will receive a grayed out Mem Cake. This makes it so you cannot receive the special bonus gear till you beat the levels properly. Third, the level is marked differently on the map:

This makes it clear what levels you haven’t cleared. If you do run out of points while doing this and have less than 100 points, Pearl will send you 3000 points. This puts you in dept to Pearl and they won’t send you texts till you pay the dept back. If you don’t care about that, feel free to continue skipping levels as much as you would like. On the other hand, if you do care, beat a level every now and again to avoid losing too many points.

The only level that is different from the rest is the final level (minor spoilers ahead).

The final level has multiple phases and every five times you are splatted, a ‘move on to next phase’ button can be pressed with X. There is no consequence for skipping these sections, except for not playing the levels.

Restart from the last checkpoint

Now you can get those playable Octolings in online play as fast as your heart desires.
