Meme Run pulled from eShop

UPDATE: The owner of the ‘Trollface’ copyright has made a post on Reddit regarding Meme Run, which you can find here.

I’m sure by now most of you are familiar with the game that seemed more like an April Fool’s joke than an actual game known as Meme Run, but if you aren’t familiar with it, you may never get the chance to play it. It was discovered earlier today that the game was pulled from the Wii U eShop. It isn’t very hard to deduce why, however. With all of the well recognized images they used, it amazes me that it even made it to the eShop, let alone that it was semi-promoted by Nintendo. But now the game’s ‘popularity’ as come to an end, most likely due to copyright issues.

What’s even more peculiar is that the Miiverse community page for it has also been taken down. Who knew a game designed to ‘troll’ Wii U gamers would end up being so popular (infamous is probably the better word)? No words have been said from Ninja Pig Studios (the developers) so far, but I’m sure it won’t go without reason. We’ll probably find out soon. If everything gets resolved, it’s likely we’ll be seeing Meme Run return to the Wii U eShop.
