Club Nintendo shut down this year, but we’ve finally got word on Nintendo’s upcoming new account system and loyalty program, called Nintendo Account and My Nintendo respectively.
Nintendo Account:
Nintendo’s new account system gives priority to ease of creation and access: you can login with your Nintendo Network ID, email address, Facebook, Twitter or Google+ account. It’s compatible with computers, Nintendo consoles and smart devices. You can buy games and browse the eShop catalog on Nintendo’s site.
Two of the coolest new features are a proper friend system instead of those cumbersome friend codes, and cloud storage for save data.
My Nintendo:
Nintendo’s new loyalty program, My Nintendo, will let you earn points by playing games instead of just buying them (although the latter will obviously be worth more). With these points, you can buy DLC for a game you already have, purchase a new game or get a discount on other games. There’s also a mention of discounts for some games on a user’s birthday.
There’s some more cool stuff in the investor briefing, such as My Nintendo benefits in theme parks, movie outlets and retail stores, as well as info on Nintendo’s upcoming mobile game Miitomo. You can get the briefing straight from the horse’s mouth here.
