Satoru Iwata, 54, will not be flying to Los Angeles for E3 2014 on advice of his physician to not travel overseas in the immediate future. According to Polygon, it will still be ‘business as usual’ for Nintendo’s president and he will continue his duties while remaining in Japan.
The company will not hold a traditional press conference this year, but will have a digital event that will take place on Thursday, June 10 at noon ET. Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 will show a series of livestreams from the company’s E3 show floor booth, and a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament will be held.
No particular reason was given for Iwata’s absence, but Shigeru Miyamoto and other major figures from Nintendo of America will be present for the show.
