Anniversary Q&A Response!

Hi!

On October 25th 2016, I joined this website, and the very next day my first chapter of Pokeumans was released. From that moment things were about to get crazy. It’s really been an adventure being here with you guys. I’ve won battles, lost a few. I’ve been able to get to know you better, and I like every moment of that.

My original intention was to get enough Play Coins to get myself a copy of Super Smash Bros and leave. But now, I’m a tier 1 sponsor and I’m getting ready to fight the Battle Kings, neither of those I would have done if I had kept my original intentions.

I hope I enjoy this website a long as it goes on, and I hope you guys enjoy my company, as annoying as I might be.

Thank you all for giving me reasons to stay here for an entire year!

And now, for the questions:

Q. Do you draw?

A. Only casually. I used to be quite rigorous at it, but then I realized that I wouldn’t be able to post them in a decent manner. I don’t have a tablet to draw on, and the scanner makes my drawing seem low-quality. I think @skydancer121 is a more dedicated drawer between the two of us.

Q. What’s your favorite Pokemon?

A. Character wise I’d say Lucario. I absolutely loved his appearance in the movie with Mew. Battle wise, I think I’d prefer Greninja.

Q. Have you read @Ace 's Sun/Moon story?

A. I saw it was posted when I got Sun. I put off reading it until I beat the game. I’ve beaten it now, though, so probably should get into that sometime. Things are so crazy here I can’t even type my own story most of the time. >-</

Q. Many people base the main character of their story off of themselves, are you one of those people?

A. Sometimes, by my Pokeumans story isn’t one of them. As cool as an idea of the author turning into a Pokemon and write about what their experiences would be like, I didn’t do that for PKHMs because I wanted it to be a separate character. My real name isn’t even Andy, and I am not him. The only characters that were based off of real people is Josh, based off my step-cousin of the same name. The rest were almost literally made up on the spot.

Q. If you passed by someone and saw they were a member of 3DS Pedia, what would you do?

A. I’d say hello. Maybe ask how they’ve been and get to know them better. Haven’t really thought of that before.

Q. What's your favorite thing about writing a story?

A. I absolutely love it when people say the like it. Plus, when you write a fictional story it sometimes feel like you’re on the adventure yourself, like a ghost or something taking notes of everything that happens.

Q. Are there any dilemmas you frequently face when writing stories?

A. As much as I love people saying my story is great, it’s the initial read that always gets me nervous. I don’t really struggle with characters and I’m not creative with names. In fact, according to one of my favorite movies, I have about as much creative skill in naming things as a Pirate:

Jack Sparrow: I once sailed with a pirate who lost both arms and an eye.

Mr. Gibbs: And what did you call him?

Jack: …Larry.

Q. Do you have any siblings besides SkyDancer?

A. Yeah, five others. Sky included, that makes six siblings. Two brothers and four sisters.

Q. Do you have blonde hair?

A. I used to, but now I’m a brunette. :3

Q. You do know there’s a forum for Q&A’s, right?

A. Oops.

Q. What is a dragon?

A. In mythology, a dragon is defined as a large reptile. Depending on the culture, the dragons are large snakes, winged beasts, or fire-breathers. Other variations do exist.

Q. Where did you get your username from?

A. Good question. I actually tried to register twice. The first time I had the name of Kilo Man. It was a name I made up after playing Mega Man, and I realized that the Mega in his name could be based off a unit of data quantity. That registration was turned down. So I tried again, and this time made my name Aura_Knight394. The Aura bit is from Lucario, the Knight comes from my heritage, and 349 came because I was thinking of Harry Potter at the time (“Turn to page 394”).

Q. Do you like books?

A. Yes. When I was younger I would read through the school textbooks when I got bored (I was part of the minority and got beat up a lot, what else could I do?). I’m past that phase now and I’ve began to read some of the classics. So far, my favorite book is Treasure Island.

Q. Hobbies?

A. Casual writing and drawing. When I’m not doing that, I’m animating, and I absolutely love to boogieboard on the beach back at LA.

Q. Favorite foods? Sweet or Spicy?

A. I like BLT’s. I think I can handle a little of both.

Q. Did your story change as you were writing it?

A. Yes! One example is the bad guy of the story. It was originally going to be a clone of Mr. X he made to retrieve the time gears. Then I re-read the rules for making a PKHMs story and found out I wasn’t allowed to do something like that. So while I was at Home Depot. I was thinking of a replacement character, one that would truly be a ground-breaking villain, perhaps one that could put Mr. X to shame. So I thought What species of Pokemon would no one expect to be bad? How can I make them bad? And then it dawned on me:

Lucario.

Other changed ideas include Troy dying and Andy having a relationship with Claire. If you look closely enough at the picture I use to represent the chapters, you could see that Troy would’ve had a larger role, but was demoted to supporting character. I scrapped those ideas and gave the ship to Claire and West instead started with something new.

I honestly can’t remember what my original idea for the story was, but I think I got it now. I sat down and thought I want my story to be unlike any other. I don’t want it to be where someone just shows up at the base, meets bullies and friends and nothing else. I want something amazing! So I looked at the Original Story.
Mr. X has energy channeling, a power which is later described to be not unlike Xerneas and Yveltal. So I began thinking of other Legendary Pokemon duos to find which one I wanted to act on. Reshiram and Zekrom. Good, but how can I make Truth and Ideals a central plot point? Ho-oh and Lugia. What did they do again? Kyogre and Groudon. Too much. Dialga and Palkia? Yes. What represents them? Time Gears.

Q. What made you want to write a story?

A. I’ve always wanted to write a PKHMs story ever since I read it. There are multiple drafts, but I’ve deleted each one so I can’t show it to you. The first draft was a story where I meet Asula and Brandon and go on adventures with them. Scrapped. Next draft was me showing up to the base and exploring what life would be like while having a romance in school. Cliché. Then I finally had an idea about a character named Andy who would go save the world.

Q. Do you have any other stories?

A. Yeah, but I don’t think they’d be nearly as good as PKHMs. Fanfiction wise, I really want to make a story for Fossil Fighters, one of my favorite games. Original story-wise, I don’t have anything particularly interesting. What I really want to do is write a lot of stories and combine them all into a Dissidia Final Fantasy type story. It doesn’t sound cool on paper, but we’ll worry about that later.

Q. When should we expect chapters to come from you?

A. Whenever I have time. You see, I live with four of my siblings, and each of them like to stay on the computer. The security isn’t as good as the old Windows 7 computer I used to have, so my siblings can go in at any time. It doesn’t help that Sky and my other younger sister have discovered Fairy Tail and are reading it online. Good golly, how many mangas of Fairy Tail are there?!

And that’s it! Here’s to another good year at the Pedia!

Thank you!
