So we all saw the E3 with Federation Force. And if you didn't, all you need to know is that Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a coop shooter where you play as galactic federation soldiers. It was not very well received. And can understand why. People have waited years for a new Metroid game, and instead of having one that has the core structure of a true Metroid game (ie, solo, exploring huge enviroments, etc etc), we get a new one that throws all those concepts out the window for what looks like some cheap cash in. And I'll admit it now, I'm not really a huge Metroid fan, so I couldn't really care less about it. I've never completed a metroid game, I've only played like 2 of them, and the series never really intrested me..but this whole situation has shown me that Metroid fans are a bunch of entitled gamers who overreact to small things. Case in point, there's now a freaking petition to cancel the game. Let me restate that. People are complaining to the President of the United States to cancel a freaking video game, because they don't like what they've seen from A FREAKING TRAILER!!! Here's what the petition says:
"What we got however is a disgrace of a game with the name "Metroid" slapped on the title. It has no elements at all of what Metroid is about and its a disrespectful manner to old and new fans of the series of showing them that the Metroid franchise is not dead afterall. This is not the Metroid we asked Nintendo to make. We should let Nintendo know what we really think of the game and make them actually LISTEN to their fans for once. Help us stop this atrocity of a game from bearing the beloved Metroid franchise name and make Nintendo halt production on it."
Look, this game has no relation to Samus as far as I can tell. Other M did a waaaaay better job at disgracing the series then this crappy little spinoff ever will. And this petition won't help make nintendo do what gamers want. Either they're gonna ignore it and release it anyways, or they're gonna look at it and take a petition to cancel a metroid game as a sign that no one wants a new metroid game. Also, keep in mind that the only source the petition uses in their case is the amount of dislikes on the trailer on their YouTube channel. They state "Please notice the 90% dislike ratio. NO ONE wants this game". Except the video has, as of the time of this writing, 1K likes. Clearly some want this game. And the fact that the only "credible" source that they can quote is from YOUTUBE, that doesn't help people take them seriously. Look, I understand if you don't like this game from what you've seen. But I think we should at least wait until it comes out before we start judging whether or not it has the right to exist. Things like this idiotic petition won't send nintendo a message, or at least not the message they're hoping for. If you don't want it, don't buy. But don't look at just the trailer can claim you want it cancelled because it doesn't fit your definition of a metroid game. It's a spinoff, for gods sake, and doing all of this just to oppose a game makes you seem like a spoiled brat. Don't get me wrong, im not saying you aren't allowed to complain or get mad. But putting in all this effort for a crappy spinoff game isn't worth it. Just let it come out, and if it's bad, it will die off on its own. It doesn't need the toxicity of the Internet for help in that regard. People hated prime when it first was revealed, and now everyone loves it. Just think, this could potentially become a beloved part of the series, and if it were to be cancelled before it even releases, then that would be like telling nintendo to not take risks on their old ip and never try to give new ways to enjoy these wonderful worlds they've created.
