Pokeumans: Chapter 20

Chapter 20

The travel to Ushuaia was an altogether pleasant one, with minor difficulties. They had forgotten to lock the cabin door once while they had their humanizing rings off, and when a cleaning lady opened the door, thinking no one was inside, they jumped and quickly closed the door. After they apologized, they explained that they were changing earlier, and left the room for her business.

When they returned to port, they found the hidden car and drove it to a parking lot, where passengers could have their cars moved from the port to the boat. They paid for tickets, drove the car in, and they set sail.

Because this ship was a transport ship and not a cruise ship, there wasn't loads to do, so they mainly just kept to themselves and devised some new tactics and strategies. Since Australia was going to be a hot and dry place, Josh was advised to be careful.

"It's a good thing you told us you were part Ice," Andy pointed out. "Or you would've been more hurt than you should."

When they landed, they got their car and began to drive off.

While on the road, though, it had suddenly occurred to them that they had no plans whatsoever as to how they would find the next gear. They just kinda drove around, hoping Andy's charm would react to something and he would find a path, but to no avail.

After a lot of driving, the sun was starting to set. They knew they would need a place to stay, for their energy could not be kept for very long. They eventually found a hotel, and decided to book a stay there.

After parking the car, they walked in and found a lady at the counter. She looked incredibly bored out of her misery, starring indefinitely at nothing in the corner. It took her a while to register the fact that guests had arrived, but even then she barely turned her head towards them.

"G'day. How can I help you?"

"We need to book a room for tonight," Andy said. "Is there a room or two available?"

"Eh. Let me check." The lady dimly looked under the desk and fumbled with a set of keys. She rose and dropped the key into Andy's outstretched hand. "Room 203. Have a nice stay." And with that, she went back to her habit of starring.

They climbed the stairs and entered their room, which was kinda small compared to American sizes, but as long as there was a bed to sleep on, they would take anything. They laid their stuff down and shut all blinds and locked the door as they took their rings off.

"You know," Claire said, breaking the silence, "The more I wear these rings, the more I am grateful for being a Pokemon."

"Same here." West chimed. "I would've never imagined my life would be going this way. It seems like yesterday I was giving my biology presentation at my school. Next thing I know, I'm a Dewott at a local base that was just issued a trip around the world to stop a madman."

"Really?" Claire seemed to be a little surprised with West's backstory. "I never knew that before. I used to live with a small family that wasn't really interested with what was going on with their children. My older brother almost never came home, my sisters had these edgy boyfriends that made them edgy too, and my Dad worked around the clock."

"Cool." Josh replied. "I'm glad I'm a Pokemon, but not for the reasons you think. I'm away from my family, and I'm happy with that." He looked sharply at the group, as if to tell them not to ask why, and laid on his side."

"How about you, Andy?"

"Uh...well, I don't have much to say about what my life was like. I had an older half brother and sister, and then I had four younger siblings. I just helped around the house and went to sleep hoping tomorrow would be a good day. I wasn't very important."

"I'm sorry to hear that. You're important to us, though!"

And they all fell asleep.

They awoke to the sound of rushing footsteps outside. They were heavy, and they could be heard all throughout the hotel.

Before any of them could do anything, their door was kicked down. The lady at the desk, no longer looking bored, carried a large, heavy gun as she stormed in.

"You're one of them!"

They all jumped from their bed as Purple gas was being sprayed. West was, unfortunately, the first one to be knocked out. Josh kicked the gun out of her hand, and slashed the lady's face. She fell backwards as she crashed into the wall. Josh proceeded to attack her until she was as dead as a nail.

"J-Josh!" Claire gasped. "Y-you killed someone!"

"Think again, missy. Pokextinction troops are made of clones. And for the clones that are chasing us, when they die..." He directed everyone's attention to the remains, which immediately began deconstructing until there was nothing but a pile of white ash. "...They disappear. They are not real people, just copies of the original. However..." He searched the remains until he found a blinking machine. "She called for help. We better bounce as quick as we can."

So, they grabbed their things and dragged West to the car. As they were driving away, big black vans began speeding up behind them.

"Dang!" Josh yelled. "We're too late. I could start the overdrive for the speed, but we'll go right off this island!"

"This doesn't look good!"

They drove faster and faster until they found Pokextinction vans ahead of them, too. They were boxed in!

They stopped the car. The vans behind them had slowed down and spread out so they couldn't escape. Each member had laser guns that were being configured. They were outnumbered by members that had lasers that were most likely on the red setting.

As the group dreaded what would happen next, everyone was surprised to see the vans in both directions being tossed to the side. To their greater surprise, some members were being lifted right of their feet and flung to rocks.

A Breloom appeared out of nowhere and kicked each member like a Kangaroo. It's powered kicks sent evildoers flying, and any that tried to sneak up behind it met a blow on their back that had them sprawling to the ground. It was an amazing fight that was incredibly one-sided.

When all of the members were taken down, the Breloom came over to the car. He carefully knocked on the window, and Josh lowered it.

"G'day, mates! My name's Jack!" He extended a hand to Josh, who was reluctant to make any contact, but shook anyway as not to be rude. "Crickey! Looks like ye've got yeselves in a wee bit o' trouble! Don't worry, we took care of 'em reeeaal good."

A Sawk, Troh, and a Golduck walked into view. "These are my mates. The twins o'er there are Houston and Joseph, and Golduck is Sheilah, who actually is my mate."

"Thank you for saving us!" Andy cheered. "My name is Andy. This is Claire, Josh, and West, who is out of condition for the moment."

"Great to meet you!" Shielah exclaimed. "Honey, these folks look like they've not a place to stay. Can we spare them our place?"

"What a grand idea!" Jack heartily agreed. "If these folks would like a place to stay."

"That would be greatly appreciated!"

"Great!" He turned to Sheilah. "Honey, you go back to the house, and I'll direct them there." He gave her a little peck on the cheek. "I'll see you shortly."

"Good Luck, and take care!" The Sawk and Troh said as they bounded away with great speed, along with Sheilah.

Jack got into the shotgun seat, and the car started moving.

"Alright, let's go!"
