Pokeumans: Chapter 38

Chapter 38

It was all a big rush to Andy. Passing through the portal was like jumping through a cannon, only without going out with the power of the ball. He traveled through the tunnel until he found himself stumbling into the grassy ground. Andy groaned as Josh rolled him aside for the other people to come through. He got up and looked around at his surroundings.

The sky was a beautiful blue with the occasional cloud travelling across the blue canvas. There was a gentle breeze blowing through the grass of the plains. It felt cool and was very fresh. Andy could even hear some birds chirping, though he was sure it was probably just bird Pokémon. He looked out and saw the Pokémon village downhill across the lake.

When everyone made it across the portal they all went downhill and across the lake, in the direction of the village. Andy was mind blown at the fact of new worlds and the possibilities. He didn’t show it on the outside, but on the inside, he was ecstatic.

They were on the path to the village now, and as they got closer Andy saw more detail. There was a large tower off to the side made of multiple floors. A large house was sat upon a hilltop that was very decorated. The rest of the place was full of huts, and off to the side Andy saw a marketplace.

The next thing Andy saw was a blur and found himself toppled onto the ground. In front of them was a Machamp that roared as it pounded its fists together. From behind, two Machoke emerged. They charged and performed a team Cross-Chop on everyone. Blaire quickly collected her wand and blasted the attackers with a Psybeam. The attackers were blown back by her attack. When they tried to get up, the Pokextinction members shot them with their green lasers on their foreheads. Now they were pinned down to the ground paralyses.

“Hmph. What dunces.” Andy looked up to see a Sigilpyh descend from the sky, accompanied by a Solrock and Lunatone. “Let’s go, Psychic Brigade!” Andy leaped forward with a Shadow Claw, but the Sigilyph quickly pointed a wing and he was frozen in place. The Solrock and Lunatone both slammed into the ground beneath him into a double Earth Power. With two Earth Powers and a Machamp’s Close Combat, Andy was ready to throw in the towel. Two Pokextinction members shot them down with their lasers and they were in the same scenario as the Fighting Brigade.

The pattern repeated over and over. The Pokextinction grunts formed a large circle around everyone else and shot all the Brigades down with their lasers. It didn’t matter if it was the Fire, Flying, Dark or even Ground Brigade, they would all go down just the same. Andy became impressed with the hidden usefulness the grunts had.

That is enough!” A huge, booming voice shouted over the chaos. It was loud enough to still leave Andy’s ears ringing. The defense circle broke up and Andy saw an Exploud standing beyond the modest carnage. The Exploud walked closer to them and began talking in a normal volume, much to Andy’s surprise, given the reputation the Wismur evolutionary line had.

“I see you have defeated all of the Brigades here. Very well done, you are clearly not the average Pokémon. Now tell me, where are you from?”

“Oh, us?” West asked. “We’re from very…far away…well, we’re not from around here and…well, you’re right.”

“I didn’t say anything that would be agreed as right or wrong.”

“…Oh well, you’re still right, anyway.”

“Ah I see, you’re the puppy-dog type, huh?” Exploud and Josh gave a quiet laugh while West simply shook his head. Exploud came over to the Pokextinction members and gave them a poke. “And what Pokémon are these?”

“No idea.”

“Well, they are ample fighters. Maybe I should bring you to the head of the village. Hmm…yes, that may be good for all of us. Right this way, if you please!” They followed the Pokémon into town.

Andy at first heard nothing, but when he got closer he heard some rumbling and sounds until he could hear the clamored voices of many Pokémon. Andy believed it to be the Market, as there were Pokémon checking out wares or food, and people behind counters shouting to promote their wares or to communicate over the noise.

“We’ll have you meet up with our leader.” He pointed up towards a large building. “Our village elder is there. If they see me with you, the guards should step aside.” They walked over towards the center of the square to see a large building, almost like a palace. Two Meinshao guards were at the doors.

“General Exploud!”

“Gentlemen.” He motioned towards his guests and the Meinshao opened the doors. One of the Meinshao looked back at the guests and did a double take when he saw the Pokextinction guards.

A Machamp came over, as if about to stop them, but then stepped aside when he saw the Exploud. They walked down through a long and dark hallway, lit with few torches. They approached double doors at the end of the hall, and Exploud gave it a knock.

The door opened and there was a Decidueye inside. He stood upright and looked calm and collected.

“Ah, I have expected you. State your business, outsiders.”

Sam stepped forward to the Decidueye. “We came because we’ve defected from an organization called Pokextinction, I am General Samuel, and with the instructions of our leader Rufus we’ve decided to stop Mr. X alongside the Pokeumans. We’re a bigger group than this, we have another little squad setting up traps for the calculated entry point of Mr. X should he arrive using the Dimensional Gems. Our job is to warn you about the attack.”

Decidueye seemed to be lifeless for a moment, being deep in thought. He nodded and walked over towards the door.

“That would explain why we had some trouble with some individuals planting weapons and explosives off in the distance.”

“You’ve already seen them?”

“Yes. I sent some guards to collect them. Allow me to instruct them to leave them alone.” He stared into space and his eyes did a little glowing. “There,” he said, relaxing, “Now they should be returning to the village.”

“Perfect.”

“Will you all be here to stay with us?”

“I think that is our plan.”

“In that case, would you all be interested in going to the training tower we have just a little ways off from the village? You may find it to be very useful.”

“I’ll take it up with Rufus. Thank you for your hospitality.”

“No worries. You should be met with no hostility and should be given lodging and refreshment. Anything to prepare you for the battles ahead.”

Andy gave a relieved sigh. “Thanks for the help, Mr…?”

Decidueye grunted and shoot his head. “Most Pokemon do not go by humans names here. Those who do are ridiculed for being…human…you must refer to your Pokemon species when speaking, Lucario.”

“Gotcha, thanks for the tip.” They turned to leave when Andy got one last request. “Hey could you tell your guards and civilians to leave the strange green glowing portal alone? That’s kinda how we get in and out of here.”

“I shall see it known.”

They were dismissed and they left the building. During their time leaving, Andy looked towards Bonnie. Her head was hung low and she looked sad. Andy could feel that she felt miserable, with a slight pinch of guilt to go with it.

What’s wrong with Bonnie? Maybe I’ll ask her tonight.

They followed Sam down to the team that was setting up the traps to relay information between them. The ones setting up the attack had reported of no forms of aggression towards them, and Sam filled the other team in on what Decidueye had said.

“I see,” Rufus said, “then it seems like we have blown what cover we had. At least it was to a credible person, at least. I would suggest you go to the tower and do some training. West and Josh, you both are free to go do some training with them.”

“Okay.”

They, Andy and Claire went the other way around and went towards the tower. Along the way, they went back into the village and got a snack from some nice Oran Berry sandwiches.

“So, wait, nobody eats each other, yeah?”

“Not really. Well, some of the more wild ones do, but the berries are a better choice morally and nutritionally. The meat you see is made from berry extract. It has good if not more nutritional value than normal meats.”

After cleaning up they continued on their way. They exchanged how exciting the fact that they were indeed in a new world with a whole bunch of new possibilities. They approached the tower, and Andy saw just how huge it was. It had many floors, and from the looks of things it wasn’t going to be a simple walk to the stairs.

“Hm…maybe we should’ve asked for more info about the tower.”

“Little late for that now.”

They opened the doors and walked inside.
