Smash 4 Greninja Guide (and minor tech)

Greninja is a very unique new character with a bit of power, speed that needs to be gotten used to, high jumps, and moves with strange speeds or hitboxes that may help with combos similar to Falco, or Fox.

The most easiest combo to pull off with Greninja is up tilt to up smash but can also be shorthop up air to avoid staling the move. Nair is a useful combo tool or just a good move to put out because it's strong, fast, and deals 11 damage if done right. You usually have to shorthop and fastfall to get the move right on a grounded opponent and it's easier to hit with than Fair (mostly because of the speed of the character and the move comes out at a strange time) although the hitbox is farther away and deals 3 percent more.

Greninja's most useful throw is up throw. It sends opponents really high and you can try and get an Uair off of it but even if you don't want to use Uair you have another option to get an advantage besides aerials. Use Hydro Pump (up special) and try to gimp your opponent with it. It's one of Greninja's most useful specials in its arsenal. It does some damage, pushses opponents away, is a great spacing tool, and gives Greninja an excellent recovery.

Greninja can use Shadow Sneak (side special) off stage but be sure to jump (if you have one) and use Hydro Pump right after it other wise you will SD. It's a great mindgame/spacing tool and your opponent will not expect it because there are no shadows in the sky but can assume if you are motionless for a split second. His neutral special Water Shuriken is a decent projectile as it's fast and can deal good damage. I suggest you do not fully charge to move in battle unless you get a good air dodge read or you gimp the opponent good enough with Hydro Pump even though there may be better options. Fully charged it's a decent kill move that can be unexpected as the fully charged one lasts a lot longer and your opponent may not shield long enough. You may be able to grab while the fully charged shot is out and your opponent is hit for maximum punishing.

You should never use Substitute (down special) as it's easily avoidable but you may use it if you want to avoid damage or your opponent doesn't expect it. Greninja's Final Smash does 52%... cool. Overall this character is very fun, has a few great options and solid aerials to boot. If you can adapt to this character's style and the opponents you can go far with Greninja.

Minor Tech Time!
Hydro-dashing is like the balanced version of wavedashing. You have to be on the ground to perform this. Practice by using Hydro Pump and immediately go up and down with the control stick twice. If you did it right you should only get a short burst of water. Now do the same thing but move diagonally down and congrats you can Hydro-dash! It has it's weaknesses of being punishable perhaps but you could mix it up with regular Hydro-Pump for maximum mindgames.

GRENINJA useful? Better buff diddy.

On a serious note if you have any kirby or Pikachu techs/reviews I'm all ears as I main those 2.
Lmao this is exactly how I play Greninja. I recently learned about Hydro Dashing, I fought a Charizard who tried Flare blitzing and I went underneath to the ground with up b and he fell right in the 2 hits of Up Smash. Most satisfying kill of my smash life.

Yeah. I think it's a useful technique but I never seen it at all in competitive matches. I just think Greninja is unpopular but may get traction in the future because of his speed.
