Thoughts on Yo-kai watch Games and Anime

I had heard a little about it from various internet locations, and seen the watch in some toy shops. To start with I thought it looked too weird, and looked like it is aimed at 10-15 year old boys. Why would I , a late 30 something mum, like it, but I thought my children might, so early one Saturday morning it was on a children's TV channel, the first episode. I was hooked, ( loved Whisper, the total weirdness, and the fact that it is based in Japanese mythology ) and so was my nearly 4 year old. He was very sad that he couldn't watch it again. Then the craze started, medals every time we went into town, watch for his birthday, watching the episodes over and over from an anime streaming channel.
I played the 3ds demo, and couldn't quite understand the battle system, got wiped out when I reached the boss fight bit, so I gave up, thought, no way will I buy that game, too complicated. I think it was because I was too into Rune Factory 4 to think about another game at the time.
A few months later, I tried the demo again, and managed to beat it. So of course I now HAD to get the full game.
When I did, I would sit quietly while the boys were playing and would quickly close the DS if they came near. I would most likely lose the game to them if they saw it.
This lasted for a week or so, when the older one crept up behind me and saw what I was playing. So then, I had to start again with their save files.
My then 2 year old got really good at beating the bad guys, with his favourite, Roughraff. He would sing the tune for the tough tribe every time in his own 2 year old way.

So now, I have played and finished the main story of the first game, and Yo-Kai Watch 2 :Bony Spirits and I have to say, it is very worth it, just the sort of game I enjoy, running around completing quests, turn based ( sort of) battles, collecting Yo-Kai. While I can see why people think it is Pokemon like, I would say it is more like collecting the monsters in Ni No Kuni :Wrath of the White Witch (ps3), and the quest and animation is a lot like Fantasy Life (3ds), another game I have put a lot of time into.
I found it was very useful that we had so many medals, as the qr codes can be exchanged for a Crank-a-Kai coins. Giving my Medallium a significant boost, and providing me with high rank Yo-kai that helped me beat the tougher enemies.
I am interested in sharing pictures of the qr codes somewhere if there is any interest from anyone. Each code is different, even the duplicate ones.

There may be more I want to say, but I am new to writing blogs so will leave it like this for now.
