Making a game takes a long time, especially if it's a game like Zelda Wii U. A lot of people have crazy high expectations for it, Nintendo have a lot of pressure on them to make it worth the wait. I'd understand why they'd want to pull attention away from it while it's still in development, but I don't think that's what they're playing at.
