3DS Pedia - Is it time to "switch" the name?

We're a Nintendo forum with a major focus on the 3DS \o/

The Switch is coming out hence the topic regarding a name change. From the way things are going, the choices are limited to keeping the domain as is or changing to a "Nintendo" related name to end future name changes.

If we do get a name change, we'll still heavily focus on the 3DS, but we'll also focus on the Switch and future Nintendo systems. Our name could be a reason why we haven't attracted many Wii U-only registrations as well ;~; (although we have gotten some).

Lately I've been really thinking we might need to change the name.

That's not the only thing that I've been considering :

forum.3dspedia.com -> moved to 3dspedia.com/forum/ or 3dspedia.com/forums/
Then whole 3dspedia.com -> moved to new-domain.com and new-domain.com/forum/ or new-domain/forums/

And make adjustments to the main site so that it more matches the forum.

If we go through with this, I'll have to take care of everything in one go or bad things can happen.

@Marc you can easily change the http://forum.host.domain to http://host.domain/forum.php?=parkeddomain through your Cpanel if that's the case

How about we stick to the roots? I think 3DSPedia is a good name. We are a community and communities don't go around changing their names for every new release. If the 3DS has kept its name "See: New3DS", then we should too.

I think @Spinnerweb was focusing more on people who hear the name "3DS Pedia" btw. Not necessarily search results where they see "Wii U" or "Nintendo Switch" from searching.

For example, Ashlee Simpson could be telling Scarlett Johansson about "3DS Pedia" and somehow Kim Kardashian overheard their conversation and thought "3DS Pedia" is only/mostly about the Nintendo 3DS due to the name. With Kim Kardashian's mindset, she might pass up on checking out 3DS Pedia because she only has a Wii U or the Switch, without even asking for details. Orrr she could think there is another site that better fits Wii U and Switch owners.

We're talking about people who don't know about Pedia and have never used the forum before. That's the point I think Spinner was trying to make but he can confirm otherwise.

I think we're better off without her.
