They are according to this new article.

Thoughts and opinions? Does the author have a point, or are they off base? Further, even if these Pokemon aren't the best, does that mean Nintendo is running out of ideas as a whole?

First off, I'm pretty sure it's GameFreak that makes the Pokemon, not Nintendo. In any case, this doesn't mean that Nintendo is running out of ideas, but rather that some people are intolerant of the newer gens. Pokemon that seem uninspired have been around in all generations (Muk is a good example for Gen 1).

I thought that argument ended when gen VI started :(

Anyway, here's my opinion on that argument: Should there be any specific way a Pokemon has to look like? My point is, there should be a large variety of Pokemon, pretty or ugly. Besides, all Pokemon were based out of something, so running out of ideas isn't really possible since there are so many kinds of animals and things in this universe. If people are so mad that Game Freak made a Pokemon based on a keychain, shouldn't they be complaining about them making a Pokemon based on a magnet?

As already mentioned, Nintendo does not make the Pokemon games, GameFreak does. I am indifferent about what GameFreak does to the games. I just want to play some Pokemon. I think they did a great job on Pokemon X/Y.

To be honest, I agree with them. My favorite generation of Pokemon is still Silver and Gold, because they were in the early days, and they weren't running out of ideas as they were saying. Generation 3 was still decent, along with generation 4, but after that, it's started to get weird a creepy. Hopefully they'll be able to go back to their roots and make Pokemon like the originals.

Can you provide a legitimate explanation as to how the pokemon now are a lot different from the original pokemon? Stupid pokemon have existed in all generations if you ask me

If you want to have my opinion: No. GameFreak isn't running out of ideas for the Pokemon series. For each new game, they do mass improvements, and make their game even more interactive (-> Features like the EV Trainer or Pokemon Amie in Gen 6). Even when they port the old games (Gen I or II), there was new features/improvements.

They won't run out of ideas before a while, believe me !

i think gamefreak have an awesome pokemon for the next game.. and one more thing.. if the you are a gamefreak pokemon creator even you have many idea's for new pokemon creature's you cant go and make them all in one genaration... take note every year new pokemon game is releasing.. so if i where you,, you and i should wait for the new pokemon to be release..:cool::cool::cool:

Did you buy Pokemon Soul Silver/Heart Gold? They were so fun! I like how they incorporated two regions. They should do that more.

I do not think that Gamefreak or Ninetendo ever run out of ideas. I thought that they had no more ideas after Pokemon Black 2/White 2 were released, but I was wrong. They do have a lot of ideas and they might just be keeping them a secret from us :ninja:

Yeah, I have Soul Silver. They're probably my favorite games, rivaling Platinum.

Yes, i agree. But the next Pokemon game won't be coming anytime soon. Don't worry, though. Once it comes out, it will be worth the wait.

no its it's probably GameFreak that makes the Pokemon, no way its Nintendo !
but i think that nintendo / game freak should have this page on the website that asks for suggestions !
and they should also listen to some of the customers / gamers ideas - i don't think that nintendo are running out of ideas but i think they should get ideas from us as gamers that played it since we were young wild and FREE :p

In my opinion, Pokemon X/Y is as optimized as the Pokemon formula can get. The game has taken everything that makes the Pokemon games good and improved on it. However, it's not too different of an experiences from games like Diamond and Pearl. I don't know how Game Freak plans on innovating now, but I think they should start by expanding the regions and really making them feel unique and not just a bunch of cities connected by routes, since that's what Pokemon is right now. I want to see more areas and places to explore along with new areas to discover after the game.

Let me recap:
Gen I: started it all, had some glitches, but pretty much core. Gamplay revolved more on collecting.
Gen II: reinforced Gen I's combat mechanics, introduced new communication methods, introduced concept of version-exclusive Legendary 'mon (Ho-oh and Lugia), introduced baby Pokemon, introduced Day/Night system
Gen III: revamps Berry system, reinforces exclusives, added some new baby Pokemon of older gen families (Azurill, Wynaut), FULL COLOR, reinforces Forme system (Castform, Deoxys), implementation of remakes in every Gen (except V)
Gen IV: Shifting to the DS: Emphasis on new Evos for older gen Pokemon (Magmortar, Electivire, etc.) first 3D games (map rendering only though), expands thoroughly on lore (Sinnoh dragons, Regitrio sidequest for Regigigas, Arceus plates and Sinjoh Ruins)
Gen V: DSi-based games: Mix of suspiciously similar previous gen elements storywise (namely I and II) and more Pokemon replacements for competitive battling (eg. Magnemite for Klink), balanced, nerfed and buffed moves (I'm looking at you Dragon Gem) and reinforcement of communication based features (Entralink, Dream World), focus on fanbase hate due to the notorious Vanillite, NO NEW EEVEE EVOLUTIONS OR ANY EVOLUTIONS WHATSOEVER FOR PREVIOUS GENS
Gen VI: 3DS: PSS and further Internet-based activities, Horde Encounters (taking cues from Dex entries alà Seviper and Zangoose, or Durant and Heatmor), overhaul of breeding (Destiny Knot), devamping of Global Link (PokéMileage Club), New Eevee evo, etc.

Don't forget, one of the major changes from Gen. III to IV was moves being redefined, allowing for more competitive playstyles. In Gen. III and prior, physical moves and special moves were separated based on type. That means a Grass-type move that isn't a status move will always be special and a Normal-type move would always be physical.
Another big factor in Gen. 3 is the introduction of abilities.

I think you summed up the changes pretty nicely. My main issue with some of these games is that they introduce minor changes rather than major ones. I'm not someone who wants change for the sake of change, but I also get bored (don't kill me) of playing the same adventure again and again. I really hope to see a game that makes the whole story more interesting and less generic than it already is. I've also noticed that a lot of these changes are mainly to battle mechanics though more than anything else.

What my point is, if GF keeps on this path, (most notably Gen IV's by adding more evolutions) they won't be running out of Pokemon anytime soon. Advancements in hardware (for example, the method used to evolve Inkay) may also encourage new ideas.
What's more, in the future I expect more people outside Game Freak (and usually Japan) to join their ranks as illustrators and producers over the following years in the steps of James Turner, the British illustrator responsible for SUCH FAN-FAVORITES AS VANILLITE. Hopefully we can get more people who can come up with even better ideas.

Comment on article:

This is so wrong, it's not even funny.

Firstly, Gamefreak, not Nintendo. Let's get that right people ;D

Secondly, the majority of your "20 Pokemon" are *evolutions* of other pokemon you have on here. Which goes to Prove how your article is lacking and running out of ideas from the start.

Please try again later :p

My sentiments exactly.
