After 2 years, I'm Back!
Towns Folk
As stated, are Shiny Pokemons still special? To be honest, shiny Pokemon isn't worth bragging anymore. Shiny Pokemons are everywhere these days and they're not as special as back then. Seeing a shiny Pokemon in the second and third gen of Pokemon feels a lot more special since its harder to spot one, let alone receiving it as a starter or hatching one as an egg. Long story short, Shiny Pokemons are not special anymore because of the abundance of it. Ironically, spotting regular Pokemon without a single shiny Pokemon in a team is rare to be honest. I'm rather picky when it comes to shiny Pokemons and am only looking for a few of them that matches my taste lol

"When everyone's special, no one will be..."

What about you guys? Do you think Shiny Pokemons are still special?

I think shinies lost their speciality when they offered shiny Beldum to everyone in OmegaAplha. Of course it's nice to have own shiny yay but what made shinies special to me is how hard they are catch/hatch or at least how much time and work it takes

thats not the first time they do something simular. Yes shiny metagross is now the least rare shiny, but back in black and white2 you get given 2 shinies, haxorus and dratini/gible. So they didn't feel pecial either. A bit like red gyarados, but i find him cool from being so importent back in the show.

To answer the OP's question, i still find the shiny pokemon that i randomly find in my game special. What a surprise it was when the electrode that guarded the masterball in the magma hideout was shiny for me. Ow and the strees for catching it cause it knows explode.

The first time I played a pokemon game (Pokemon Heart Gold version), I had no idea of what a shiny pokemon was. Actually, I ended up catching a shiny pokemon (whose name I don't remember... xP) and I didn't even know it was shiny. I thought it was another version of that pokemon, I didn't know it was that rare. Although I did find strange how it shone in the beggining of every battle. I think that only when I caught the shiny Gyarados, I learned what shiny pokemons were.
So, back to the question at hand. I agree that they were more special before because they were really really rare and some of them were important to the story in a way (like the red Gyarados for example). But now, as you've said, shiny pokemon aren't really that "rare" anymore. Actually, I've already seen so many techniques to catch a shiny pokemon in X/Y that I don't know how lot's of people don't have shiny teams. Sometimes I see with a lot of shinies, so many they could make many shiny teams, but I'm surprised that more people don't have that many number of shinies, the way you can find them these days.

Shinies used to be very hard to obtain, and some aesthetically appealing to have, I guess. Until Gen 5 (Which introduced the Shiny Charm), Shinies had 1/8000 something chance of being encountered. But now, the normal rate is halved to 1/4000 something, and with a shiny charm it's 1/2000. With the Shiny charm and Masuda method? Every 1/1000 something eggs is a Shiny.
As you can see, the rarity of shinies is one eighth of what it was back then. Due to this there are tons of shinies revolving around, as many people are able to obtain them easily.
The other reason Shinies are becoming less valuable is because of Powersaves and cheats, which have been around for a while, yes. But nowadays, with more people becoming aware of online communities, and trading, these "Cheatmons" are also more common. I guess you could say it's causing a Shiny inflation? Haha.

Every Hardcore Pokémon Trainer have some Shinies, that's not special.

It would be special if one in a million had one.

It is still special for me since I just get to know shinies after more than 10 years of pokemon!
I knew red gyrados when I was young, but I just think it is just another pokemon, gyrados to be specific, but is red...
What I didn't know is other pokemon can have this "special colour" (I never paid attention before!)
So yes, I think shiny is still special and everyone wants that glitter effect!

True that shiny pokemon are not all that special anymore since people use power saves and other easy methods of getting them but some shiny pokemon are rare and many people don't have them like shiny raquaza or entei.

I think shiny Pokémon lost their special-ness when they created Action Replay, they have the code to spawn shiny Pokémon.

Pretty much SoulSilver and Platinum were the end for shinies, in my opinion. Back then getting a shiny gave you awesome bragging rights! Now, meh. Since then it's changed. In Black and White, everyone, and I mean everyone had a shiny. It's even more in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire now, with everyone having a shiny Beldum. It's just been ruined the last two Generations. The importance of shinies, sadly, has disappeared.

Yeah, I now look for Pokérus Pokémon not everyone has those and it's just as rare.

When I see a shiny in X/Y I'm just like whoa! What are the chances!

But when I found one in Runy I was like "HOLY CRAP! I'm catching this no matter what!!!"

So they're not really as special anymore, even if you get them yourself or legitimately -.-

That depends :
THEY ARE SPECIAL : Because sometimes it can take forever to get one and when you FINALLY get that shiny caterpie or even a shiny magikarp it makes you feel special or let's say you've done about 5,000 soft resets for that shiny torchic you've been after for so long, shines that have been got using non-cheating terms are still worth quite a lot. And let's face it, it's good to succeed

THEY ARN'T SPECIAL : Nintendo, over the years has made lots of changes to pokemon, one of these changes is how often shinies appear. As of OR and AS the chances of shiny pokemon appearing has increased so much in fact, more than half have found a shiny in-game without the means of cheating. If more people have shinies, this makes them less special and let's face it, there are tons of hacked shines going around wonder trade / GTS / online battling and even though it might be cool to show off that one shiny pokemon, chances are, the other person might have a full team of hacked shinies.

MY OPINION : Shinies are still special and you should feel pleased when you get one.

Why I love shiny:
Probally becuase to change the color, to be most liked I don't know.
Also the shiny can be used in trades for legendaries or anothers shiny so this is good for completing Pokedex

Why I hate shiny:
The shiny is just changing color. Not stat, not type just the color is changing. I think that is so bad.
I am really jealous when I am fighting VS a user who have a shiny legendary. I always say it is a hacker and I will lose.

So for me it is depending of the reasons but I am so so
