How about Gantz, Shiki or Elfen Lied? These are a little similar to Highschool of the Dead I think... Other good Horror Anime I can recommend are Mirai Nikki, Higurashi, Deadman Wonderland and Ghost Hunt. Hell Girl also isn't bad ^^

I would say Higurashi no naku koro ni (is confusing at first but is veryveryvery nice),maybe an ongoing like Gakkou Gurashi or something "strange" like Pupa :3
