Should live chat be brought back?

IMO splitting up the shoutbox would depopulate it more because of the scattered people that say wow no people in my favorite SB, guess I can't comment!!!! Live chat is much better because you can easily get someone's attention and message them live over banking on them hopefully seeing the shoutbox.

Isn't the private messaging and shoutbox enough? As long as you can keep the pedia afloat, I'm happy with what it has right now.

Man, I want livechat AND the SB with rooms D;

It depends... Is the live chat still going to be in the shout box, plus the rooms? Basically the way the sb is now, with rooms added to it?

I assume when we're talking of Shoutbox w/ Rooms, it means either:
  1. The rooms are for specific categories of subjects (i.e. Pokemon, Zelda, Fire Emblem, etc.) or...
  2. The rooms allow you to link up privately with another or several member(s), with the goal of intergrating what people liked about livechat directly into the shoutbox itself.
Either one using tabs at the top/side of the shoutbox of course. Correct me if I'm mistaken, @Marc.

Hey, I noticed when it was gone. (In fact that same day, before it was gone, I was chatting with my brother @Ace whom
I was apart from.) I use it for quiet chat with peeps, whether it's pokemon business made easier, or transmission amongst good fellas.

This rooms concept interested me at first, and I thought it could be handy as a replacement. But then I remembered what the shoutbox is, how everyone wants to get in everything, and the rooms thing doesn't sound infinite - sounds like there would only be four rooms, and we'd all get in each other's business.

Listen, don't sacrifice quality solely for the saving of money. If you need to get more traction in getting it used, put up some
forum on guidelines or ideas.
You could even dumb the chat-bar down a bit - remove some abilities, some details, make its memory shorter... You could scrap the drawing app, I honestly don't see anything coming out of that.

Alright, so there is a problem .-. I deleted the live chat files with all the modifications I've made to it when I closed the forum some days ago and I don't have a backup of it. So ehh, it looks hopeless (I do have the original, unedited files though).

I'm thinking about purchasing a license to use another shoutbox add-on. Its UI looks horrible but I can make it look pretteh for this forum's theme, and also try to make it match the current shoutbox as closely as possible with all the cool stuff I've added to it like member icons and spoilers.

Rooms could be generated by members and the tagging thing like what @Pandaxclone2 suggested seems possible. You can also password protect your rooms during creation.

In addition, it has more commands (which I've been looking into adding to our current shoutbox).

Dang dude. Ya deleted it, but now all the votes are saying to bring it back? Methinks one could benefit from a little planning-ahead. :p

I empathize with your situation, whatever it may be, but please do consider the consequences of yo actions and plan ahead. It always helps to stand back, wait a day before deleting anything of signifigant design.

This obviously wasn't intentional.

Wouldn't this introduce private rooms? Also if so, to what degree would they be private? To my knowledge, the SB is not private by any means, so would this result in new rules being established? Or more so, are there limitations we should know about?

1. As much as the person being able to guess the password or have permission to bypass the password protection.
2. Room owners can set their own rules (eg. swearing, etc) and they can kick people who disobey them.

Of course, there will be general rules.

I'm satisfied with that, it's not an alternative to live chat, but it's better than nothing.

I'm curious as to why you believe this isn't an alternative to live-chat? If this is off-topic we could take this to a PM.

A live chat room and a live chat aren't the same, yet I acknowledge their similarities... actually, good point.
