Capcom announced on June 17th, 2014 that it will not be renewing its takeover defense, and is now open to a buyout.
Capcom said:
The 35th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders of CapCom Co., Ltd. was held today, June 16, 2014. At this meeting, the shareholders did not approve our third proposal: Renewal of Countermeasures in response to a Large-Scale Purchase of Shares of the Company (Takeover Defense). CapCom made an announcement concerning this proposal in a press release dated May 16, 2014.

1. Result of voting

The takeover defense proposal was not approved because this proposal did not receive majority of voting rights as required.

2. Upcoming actions

Despite of non-approval of Renewal of Takeover Defense at the 35th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, CapCom will continue to focus on further preserving and enhancing corporate value and common interests of its shareholders. If there is any large-scale purchaser of CapCom stock, we will react to make necessary measures within the admissible limits of applicable laws and regulations. In addition, we will react to take steps to ensure disclosure of the position of the board of directors and other information and that there is sufficient time for shareholders to examine the proposed large-scale purchase and reach a decision.

So, basically Capcom is up for grabs. I'm surprise to be honest, it seems the're now open to a new Takeover approach. If a Company/Person comes in to buy a majority of the shares they'll be okay with that, and that Person/Company will be in charge of Capcom. The thing is though, we don't see Capcom's profits/debts etc. so whoever is buying Capcom would have a lot of "paperwork" and management to be done, to get the company in top working order.

A lot people would like Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony to buy the majority of their shares (IPs) while others would prefer a Third-Party Company like Bandai Namco/Ubisoft/EA to take over. I personally don't mind if Bandai Namco takes charge of Capcom, because most of the other Third-Part Companies doesn't seem fit to be in control of Capcom's IPs. Imagine having Mega-Man, Monster Hunter, Breath of Fire, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Okami, EXCLUSIVE ONLY to Nintendo consoles! I think Nintendo would benefit the most with Capcom's IPs because they would know how to go about with these franchises the best, compare to Microsoft & Sony (IMO).

Wow, so let me know what you think, I tried my best to make this entire situation understandable, so let me know which gaming company would you like to buy Capcom.

The reason why I want Nintendo to buy Capcom, is that I think they'll benefit from it the most, and I don't see Microsoft/Sony making games that compliment the IPs (IMO). I really don't see a Megaman/Breath of Fire on the Xbox One, it fits Nintendo's consoles and their style of programming games better (trying my best to make sense, lol).

Also, Rare was bought by Microsoft, Microsoft did NOTHING with Rare's IPs, and it's a waste... I don't think Sony (gaming department) would have enough money to purchase Capcom, when competing with companies like Microsoft and Nintendo, that have more than enough money.

If Nintendo buys it and we get more megaman I'm in!
Edit:never mind, they would put new megaman games on wii u. We need someone who works with PC to buy megaman so new megamans on PC. Or Nintendo goes with the megaman 3ds.

For Megaman case, we've seen Rockman Xover and how horrible it was ._____.

Not mentioning their failure on making Gaist Crusher a mixed media, which has low sale (compared with Youkai Watch, for example).

We got Megaman and RE creator leaving the company - uh oh we still have Monster Hunter, aaaand Ace Attorney series. These two series are my hope, since Capcom cancelled Megaman Legends 3 *kick*

I need some good megaman games soon ;)

It's so sad, really. Capcom used to be one of the best developers ever and now they're on sale? :(
They were really terrible during their last years.

One of the Big Three (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) would be smart to buy them out to get their franchises, though it depends on how much in-demand their games are these days which is certainly less than it was ten years back. Still, if one of them buys Capcom, all of Capcom's popular franchises would become exclusive to their consoles and that'd benefit them. I think Sony need to do this the most to get some recognizable exclusive franchises in their arsenal - Nintendo have tons of popular series like Mario and Zelda and Kirby and Microsoft's Xbox consoles are basically synonymous with Halo - but Sony have only a few series like Uncharted, Resistance and the terrible God of War and they have a specific audience.

Of course, Sony have Valkyria Chronicles as an exclusive series so I love them  :p

If they don't want their games to be exclusive, let's hope what happened to Atlus, happens to Capcom, too.
But yeah, Capcom's living IPs are currently for 3DS...

Honestly I think Nintendo should buy it. Finish Megaman Legends 3 or make Megaman Battle Network 7 please, I'm dying for those games. Come on Nintendo, you can fix it!

I think that if any of the big 3 buy them, Nintendo should do it. It seems to me like Capcom games fit the Nintendo audience very well. However, I'm fine with nobody buying out Capcom.

Nintendo should buy Capcom. Think about the amazing games they could develop and release! it's a no brainer. xD

Sony/Microsoft won't make good use of Capcom, I'm sure of it. :p

At this point, you are right. Nintendo should really buy Capcom. They have made so many great games, and I think once they partner up together, we will be getting many more quality games. Maybe even a Mega Man for the 3DS.

The reason why I excluded Sony was because the gaming department of Sony isn't too wealthy, they lost more money with the PS3 comparing to their profits with that console, I also feel like they won't compliment Capcom's IPs well, I'm looking at the list of PS4 games (to be released), and to be honest, if I see a Mega-Man game on the PS4, I'm positive it won't capture people's attention. Whereas with Nintendo, I feel they'll keep the Capcom's IPs (Breath of Fire, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Street-Fighter) alive and strong, that's just how I look at it.

Wonder if the same thing that happened to Capcom will also be the same thing Konami will do eventually (hopefully the very distant future). Maybe if one big company buys Capcom (probably Nintendo) then they will not be able to afford Konami and Konami will be bought by the next biggest company (depends on when and if it will happen. I am only assuming). And yes, if Nintendo gets Capcom I think they will have a happy future together.

I feel Sony and Nintendo could make the best use of capcom. But Nintendo could really use someone like capcom under their wing.

So.. Nintendo should let Sony buy Capcom, and then after Sony has bought Capcom, Nintendo should buy Sony :p
It would change soooo many things. So many positives.

This is going a little bit off-topic, but I think if Nintendo buys Sony (which would never happen) gaming would take a turn for the worst. There's so much that can go wrong with that idea, I think..even though I'm not much of a Sony-Fan-Girl, the gaming industry needs more than one major competitor that's bringing out Hardware and Software, I don't want to go too deep on that, because it's such a wide-topic.

Nintendo wouldn't buy Sony, it wouldn't make sense. Nintendo is a gaming-only company, whereas Sony is an electronics company, they are two different things.

Who do I think will buy Capcom? Sony. Sony is the most fitted for the majority of Capcoms IPs. The only ones there that Nintendo would know how to handle well is Mega Man, and that wouldn't be beneficial enough for Nintendo.

If someone buys Capcom, it's going to be EA. Capcom makes money grabbing games and, well, that's a perfect fit for EA.

In the perfect world Capcom would just get their crap together and make all their stuff on every platform tho.
