While playing the normal Smash mode in SSB 3D, do you prefer team battles and select a partner for yourself or every man for himself?

I enjoy playing with both settings, but today I found myself preferring to play two-a-side team battles. I haven't tried online multiplayer yet, but I think it'd be even more fun to have team battles online. :cat:

And if you put three folks in one team and one in the other, you can even gang up on that character... :sneaky: (I haven't actually done this, I swear! :hilarious: )

I prefer free-for-alls because I enjoy relying on my own skills more, especially in either of the online modes (For Fun/Glory) because they're timed (ugh) and with strangers.

I do like the occasional team battle though.

I prefer free-for-all battles because then I'm not depending on my team, and then my team is not depending on me! For example, if I get paired up with a person who has never played Smash Bros before, I'd probably lose. It's the same the other way too, if I cause us to lose because I'm up against people way better than me. :p

Well I like team battles because someone can possibly help you get an edge and lead you to winning however your chance of winning is dependent on how well you fight and how experienced your ally is. If there are terrible people being your ally you'd get a better chance at winning in FFA where sure in theory it's a 1/4 chance but that's the same chance as everyone else so those are more fun. Items off of course.

I prefer free-for-alls.

Let's say your partner gets knocked out and you're up against two players who work well together. The odds may not be on your side for that battle. Sometimes I also get confused with the colors on such a small screen,

I do like playing team battles every now and again though, but I'd want to choose my partner, :playful:

I like teams better (only if your partner is really good and you're really good as well) because I find that they're much more fun and good for training. Free-for-all is alright too, though. You just need the skills. :p

Free for all for me. I like royal rumble type of fighting where everyone is your opponent and no one is you ally. It all depends on how good you are on controling your character and avoiding damages from other foes.

since i'm the one int he group who isnt at good at smash as the other team battles just makes them mad cause i'm like bringing my team mate down. free for all gives me the chance to ty and kill someone before dieing horribly.

I prefer free for all's

Free for all because it gives you more freedom and if you're teammate just keeps SDing then even if you own you still wouldn't win.

I like the free for all battles since it's good practice and it helps me improve my gameplay {I'm a smash noob}.

Actually I like both, but I feel like I can rely more on myself in free for all. Lets say im playing online in team mode, and my the player on my team dies all the time, and I dont die a single time and we lose. That is pretty annoying, so in online I prefer free for all, but I can be on team With friends!

It's really difficult to choose between the two, as thy both are great modes.
Free for all is a mode which is basically pure button mashing (Which mode isn't? :p) and it is VERY fast-paced, especially if you are playing with 4 players.
Team battles require a bit more co-ordination, and in turn are more organized. You can work together to single out one enemy, or attack both of them simultaneosuly.
From my old days of play SSBM on the GameCube, Free for all is the most enjoyable, and requires the best reflexes of them all to dodge/block every single attack you possibly can.

Team battles all the way because it allows individuals to adapt to their partner's playstyle. If successful, they can both coordinate their tactics without hesitation because they will be in total sync. But isn't that what we all strive to do for any game requiring teamwork? If someone isn't as good as you, you can probably predict what they can do and be a step ahead to keep you covered and vice versa.

Always free-for-all. I like to play solo and if I play team battles on classic mode I always think my teammate is just MADE to die the first seconds and then its 2v1 which might get really hard especially when i play on level 9

Team battles require a lot more thought than regular battles - they require you to consider you, your team mate and your opponents. One of the most famous examples of teamwork in team battles is - of course - the Wombo Combo. Those kinds of things can't really happen in a chaotic free for all.

...That and they're less of a mess on For Glory.

I think that I prefer Free-For-All since it is a lot more fun that way . I only prefer team battles if my teammate is a person that I know or is skillful :p but other than that , free-for-all is a whole lot better since people will be smashing each other in a more fun way :D

I think that Free-For-All is way too confusing and hard to win or even land a hit on someone :p I always die before I can do anything o_O Team battle is really fun because you can work together and no friendly fire :D I had always liked and favored Co-Op or Team battles over PvP or default multiplayer.

I perfer free for all, but the game was not designed for that. I wish it to be added on Pokemon games with maybe some rules to make it fair from getting team up against three people. Coin flip? Something. Oh when the game says 1-4 players, why is there no three player battle? I want my money back! Still keeping the game.

When I can set my settings, I like team battles too. They also rely a lot on your skill when you put Friendly Fire on because you have to hit your opponents but not your friend. Too bad we can't change settings when playing with everyone online.

That setting also added something else in Melee, for example if you played JigglyPuff with a Falco (against two opponents, whatever they are), you were able to help him come back on stage with Pound. Same if you played Falco with a Sheik for example, you were able to shoot lasers to allow Sheik to do several Up Bs. This no longer applies to SSB4 since people never die and always come back.

And talking about something else than that setting, when playing in teams you must also help your friend when he's sent out of stage and being edgeguarded so it actually involves more skill and is a lot more fun. Plus the fact when you're playing with stocks and not with time, if you die, you can steal lives so you keep playing instead of getting bored while people are still having fun (which would be the case in free for all).
