I like both actually. Free-for alls have you every character for himself and you can beat up everyone. In team, you can still do a lot, but it might become a bit difficult for you in AV controlled players as they may go outta control.

I like Free for all because whenever I'm in a team battle I accidentally keep trying to hit my team member thinking it's the opponent.When I'm in a team battle I can't focus on my team members.

I like doing free for alls but my friends always want to do teams because some of them are dependent @-@. I like free for alls more because when you win you get a satisfaction of saying I beat all of these people. Plus in free for alls, you're supposed to feel like there's little space for you to stand, because you should try to fight and make space by KO'ing people XD. Team Battles aren't as fun because there's usually a lot of miscoodination between teammates and one is usually super dependent on the other.

Free for all is better in my opinion because anything goes in this mode. It is also more intense because there is hardly any one who can save you since every one is pratically killing each other. Also when playing Team Smash, your partner may not be the best to rely on helping you win. Sometimes it's no fun at all.
