Seeing as story mode was skipped in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, do you think we will see it included in Super Smash Bros. for Switch? Or do you just not care and hope the multiplayer will be good?

I've never played Melee and I have only played some of Brawl at a friend's house (it was just local multiplayer we played and not for too long) but I believe before Smash 3DS/WiiU, a story mode was included.

I have fond memories of playing Melee with my brothers an cousins on hot summer days in the cool of our basement. However, I hated story mode in Brawl for the Wii. I skipped the Smash 4 for the 3DS and WiiU, so I can't legitimately critique Smash 4. What I loved about Melee was the crazy randomness and items made no battle the same and anyone could play and win, Melee was and is much more than a simple fighting game to me. It's memories with siblings and cousins and laughing hysterically at the crazy stuff that happened on the TV with lovable Nintendo characters. What I disliked about Brawl was the story mode seemed more skill based (even though you could change the difficulty) and played similarly to a platformer when you weren't fighting. I suck at platformers...

What I hope Smash for the Switch achieves for me at least is staying away from Story Mode and focusing on the characters, items and battling with friends and or family. You can probably tell that I'm a more casual fighting game player and that I used items in Melee, none of this hardcore itemless fighting. I played for the fun of it.

I really enjoyed the sub space emissary and it was neat to unlock charcters and watch the series of video games come together in great boss battles and cut scenes, sorta what they did with the trailers for 4. I really hope they include a mode like this in switch smash bros:)

I loved Subspace Emissary sooooo much! But, having it on the Switch may not be such a good idea unless if they have everything else in perfect harmony, then they can actually work on it

Subspace was really great. It had a serious story and alot of things happen. And the gameplay is like kirby, but with smash bros players. If they did a new story mode they would have to do it very differently, both to lower how much work it takes (they came up with quite a few original baddies, a interesting plot, and the cutscenes probably took alot of work too.) and to find a way to make a good story mode without the cutscenes (sakuri said they arn’t doing that again because people spoiled it on youtube)

Some of my favorite gaming memories was when my older brother and his friends were playing Subspace on the hardest mode, and were stuck on the Castle Level with Ike, Marth, and Meta Knight. They left to go get snacks, and I snuck in and played, completely beating the level. They were a mix of mad and impressed when they got back, and I was added to the player rotation.

While I'm a little too old for memories like that, a story mode like Subspace is something that I still really want. The idea of a combined storyline of all Nintendo characters was really cool, and I love seeing characters from different franchises interact, like the Pokémon Trainer and Lucas. I know the issue with the cut scene thing, but in all honesty I think that was a cop-out. I understand it's tiring to create, but that doesn't mean I can't dream of one.

I think so. Nintendo is always doing something different with their games, who's to say they don't add a new type of story mode that we haven't seen before.

No. It will have an adventure mode, with individual 'Break the Targets!' stages, but I highly doubt we will have anything on the level of The Subspace Emmisary...

I would love to have a story mode on Super Smash Bros Switch. I had a great time with the story mode in Brawl and I got done replaying it and I had a blast with it! I would love to have a lot of the smash 4 characters plus the Switch characters to go on an adventure!

Do YOU KNOW what would be interesting? How about a custom story mode? You choose your characters and they interact different depending on what path you choose and there could be secret paths too. That way the whole story won't be spoiled and there's more reasons to play single player. Sure Subspace had minor differences because of the characters you chose but the main story was the same and Adventure mode in Melee was pretty linear, but even if they did Adventure mode in the new games I would be alright with it. Would you prefer balance over story though? Probably. Then again they could to that later and add patches.

I'm very hopeful that they'll include some kind of story or adventure mode. Based on feedback for'smash tour' they have to do something more engaging than that!

I don't think so, at least not in the way brawl did it. Implementing all the characters would be rather tough and I bet that 4 years of development time wouldn't be enough to make a good story mode. But again I can be wrong considering it's only one smash bros game vs the 2 smash 4 games that Nintendo had to produce.

I think what'll happen is that as you unlock more and more characters different video segments will come to "save them". Judging off of the animation showing Ridley at the end I bet it's possible.

I honestly wouldn't care too much if there was no story mode, as I never really enjoyed subspace emissary to begin with (I know, I'm definitely in a minority there). It just never really interested me. It's not that I would be mad if there was a story mode in the new smash bros ultimate game, but I just wouldn't care much.

yes i am hoping story mode will return, this was one of my favorite things about brawl on the wii aside from it being my first and definitely enjoyable smash bros played. i didnt expect the 3ds smash to have this due to the overall limitations of the system, but it kinda sucked on wii u that we didnt get one as it definitely would be possible to do for a console release of the games. luckily, the expanse of various modes on the wii u made up for this and since the idea of the 3ds release was 'play anywhere' (in my opinion), i cant complain about this seriously but it would have been nice to see.

seeing as smash bros ultimate on switch has every character that was ever in smash games included, along with some newcomers, i would love to see a story mode for this one. this game already sounds too amazing to not have a story mode if you ask me :p but for switch, at least its a possibility

I liked Melee's Adventure Mode. A proper storyline has potential but I didn't like the execution of the Subspace Emissary.

For Smash Switch I think it's more likely that we'll get a mode similar to that board game that nobody played given how much time they have before release

Due to the fact that Nintendo said you’d start with a small roster and feel like your constantly “recruiting” newcomers it seems possible, also so it seems like they have listened to a good amount of our suggestions. It’s going to be ultimate if it has a story mode :)

I wish for it since i think a crossover outside of gameplay dont have much if it doesnt a notoriusly amount of interactions between characters,

of couse, instead of having generic locations "generic forest, generic stadium, generic sky" like in brawl i would have locations of the games that smash represents

I honestly kinda want it but don't really expect it. On one end, this may be the last smash game and sakurai may want to end it with a bang with everything one could dream of. On the other hand, sakurai has been through enough with the roster and new content. As for where my thoughts lie, I'll go with the latter.

Do I think that Super Smash Bros Ultimate will get a story mode? Maybe. Will it be a successor to Subspace Emissary? I doubt it. Here's why. While yes, a lot of people loved Subspace Emissary, I feel like they would need more time to work on it. With their current time span, they have a little more than four months left until the game releases, assuming they don't delay the game. I feel like if this were to somehow work, they would have to had finished with characters in July, which according to the Invitational, probably hasn't happened. Thus, it's most likely that instead we get a successor to Melee's Adventure Mode, or we only have a classic mode. I guess we'll find out in December!

I'm hoping that Subspace Emissary would make a re-appearance. Subspace Emissary was a really good story mode, and I remember finally getting a Tabuu trophy! I thought it was such an epic story, and the enemies were really creative! The cutscenes were fun as well.

Maybe Smash Bros Ultimate will have a whole new storyline...?? We just have to wait and see!
