Which generation is your favorite, and why?

I'd have to say the latest gen. I love seeing newer Pokemon, even if some of them look like a child's creation. >_>

I liked the first gen. That's where it all began, and the Pokemon were original!. Most of my favorite Pokemon are from that gen.

For me it is the First and Second Gen. The Kanto/Johto Region pokemon were great, after that I think the folks at GameFreak ran out of ideas.

I'm gonna say the 2nd generation. The first one is great, but Gold/Silver were the first games I played and all the Pokemon seemed to be unique in their own way. Which is something you don't really see anymore (they don't look like animals anymore)

They look more like "Garbodor" now a day's lol (play on the word GARBAGE, because the pokemon is LITERALLY a garbage bag haha)

visual wise gen 6, fun wise gen 2, overall because it was the my first and you never forget you first, gen 1

The first generation of Pokemon games was the best and I think Gold/Silver had the perfect amount of Pokemon.

When the newer generations arrived, Ruby and Sapphire, Pokemon began to grow old because of the amount of Pokemon there were, it went a bit over the limit, and I think future Pokemon games should only have about 50 new Pokemon. I was happy, however, with Diamond and Pearl's having a lot of legendaries, as well as Ruby and Sapphire [and Emerald]. Gold and Silver were my favorite however.

I'd say my overall favorite generation is 1. It was what I started with, so nostalgia is there, but I like the Pokemon, the region, the plot, it's all good.

I'm a generation III gal. Hoenn is my absolute favorite region. Not to mention, generation III includes Colosseum, one of my favorite games.

What I love about Hoenn is everything, really; the awesome selection of Pokemon, the characters, the tropical settings, the soundtrack, the plot, etc.

I just love the first generation but I'm old school.

Gen II no doubt. What really made it the best for me was going back to Kanto after the Elite Four. That was amazing and having that much extra stuff to do was great.

My favorite generation is Gen 1, the one it all started with. I grew up with this generation and collected a lot of the merchandise and to this day I love it even more than back then.

If we're talking about offline play, I'm going to go with 3rd gen mainly because of Emerald's Battle Frontier. I bit the bullet and re-played the single player gameplay in Emerald after beating Sapphire just to unlock the Battle Frontier.

^ If you know me, you know that was painful for me to go through, :panda:

If it's for online play, then it's definitely 6th gen. Got to love having the ability to play with up to 719 different Pokemon over Wi-Fi in different tiers. Of course, I did not include Hoopa and Volcanion since they're not obtainable in the game, yet.

I liked the DS ones and GBA ones i am not sure what gen they are XD . but i just like how they look and they seem to have more to do after you finish the elite 4 ect. but then like @Marc said the gen 6 3ds games are great fro the online play, but if they still had online play for DS games i might like them better.

For mechanics wise the VGCs would be nowhere if it weren't for 3rd Gen and their 3-more-generations-strong gameplay mechanics such as IVs/EVs/Double Battles and some very unique Pokemon (although I like Johto and Unova's mons the best). As for a competitive standpoint if it weren't for the easier ways to breed 5IVs and EV train them (regardless of their level in Gen 5) I would never be the best Pokemon battler and I would've sweeped the teams I tried to make before (with Gen 5 being my next strongest). So props to Gen 6 for the first most intense competition that anyone can get into.

I'm going to say third gen. First off, Sapphire was my first Pokemon game, and it brought me into the series. The designs were unique, some of them strayed off of what a Pokemon "should" be. Also the generation brought in so many game mechanics that are now so integrated into competitive play, so yeah. Although I could do without all of the surfing.

I'd have to say this generation with the new pokemon and megas and new adventures, and even the pokemon from other generations moves that they learned were different in this generation,u could even battle the professor in this generation. Now that was cool

Purely based on the Pokemon & not the gaming,

First gen & partly the second gen are the best.
First gen just had a great balance, you actually wanted to catch them all from Meowth to Magma to Magikarp to Mewtwo.

In the second gen things were starting to get silly, though some of the new ones & the extra evolution's for the originals made it worthwhile.
Now days they're clearly milking the cash cow with stupid additions like Klefki -__- Seriously? - a key chain!
..even if there are a few good ones the saving grace for the newest gen for me is the mega evolution's (But then we're going back to 1st/2nd gen again)

I liked the 5th Gen the most, largely because I was so impressed by the story and music. Admittedly nearer the end the story tapered off a little but it was a significant step forward for Pokemon. Gen 6 went backwards in these two respects with the same old boring story and mediocre music, but they vastly upgraded the graphics and online. I'm hoping Nintendo finally learns by the 7the Gen and gets a more than serviceable story and improves the music a little.

Unova was beautiful. But I think a part two was unneeded (Sorry, B2W2.) Black and White were amazing by themselves.
Comparatively, though I really enjoyed Kalos, Unova was better in my opinion. The story wasn't your typical "We're gonna capture the legendary Pokemon and take over the world." (Haha, okay. It still pretty much was.)
But it pits the player's beliefs against that of the Antihero, N's. Ultimately, after awakening the two legendary dragons, they face off to decide the future of Trainers and Pokémon. Meanwhile, a darker, manipulative figure stands behind N, using his goodwill and Naivety (Is that the word?) to ensure no one other than him had Pokémon, to put him in absolute power over the world. It really takes a more complex turn, and unearths a darker side of people, but Also shows people's kindness.
