He's got some pretty cool mssks though

I think that he is a very weird character , especially when it comes to Zelda : Majora's Mask . Sure he looks very evil but also at the same time misunderstood . Well of course he's mot so bad when it comes to Zelda : Ocarina of Time , but he says alot of weird things and quotes that are quite memorable in different parts of the Majora's Mask game. I think as a final opinion that he is a I guess decent guy but pretty much meh-ish.

I believe he is decendent from the "Ancient Ones" that he speaks of in Majora's Mask and while he definitely is a bit oddball, he is benevolent.

The non-canon Majora's Mask manga seems to suggest he has darker intentions, stating one time that "Once [he] get's the [Majora's Mask] back [he'll] have no further business with this world", along with Feirce Deity Link taking a swing at him with his sword and calling him a trouble maker before he disappears laughing. But that's just non-canon after all.

As panda mentioned, if you look at the non canon manga, it sounds like he has other purposes for the mask then simply keeping it for his collection. However, since that's non canon, it's hard to say if he's evil or just weird. I guess that's part of his charm though, is that he's so mysterious

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

The happy mask salesman is a really creepy character, but I don`t think that he is evil. He wanted Link to stop the moon and save Termina, so obviously he didn`t want to destroy the world. On the other hand... he did keep the mask after Link defeats Majora. The most "good" thing he could do would be to destroy it... but he "needed" it... MAJORAS MASK 2 CONFIRMED!!

Seems thats not to be the case

That said the Happy Mask Salesman is probably weird and a lil bit creepy as he's had to guard this mask for so long traveling place to place to stop people discovering its location

He is EVIL!!! By default he is just plain creepy with his blank smiling face. After I read through the BEN Creepypasta, I was confrimed that he is an evil soul along with the Statue Elegy of Emptyness. The story isn't that scary but I might be frigented for a day or two. It is sooooo long though.

Like ToxicWolf said, you can't exactly base him as evil from a fictional story that's based on the game, even if it has video footage pertaining to the game. And using his normal expression as a means of calling him evil is prejudiced. We're here to talk about if the Happy Mask Salesman as he appears in the official canon is evil or misunderstood by actions, not looks.

Canon means that the information used for this discussion is official by word of the source of said franchise. Non-canon is information that has either not been recognised by official sources, or has been but is denied and labeled unofficial.

I don't know much about his role in Majora's Mask besides the famous 'terrible fate' line, but judging from his character in Ocarina of Time, I think he's actually a very nice and sweet guy who just looks really scary. How many other people effectively give away masks for free and let their 'seller' who doesn't even spend anything make a profit? No one but this guy. He only want to spread happiness. He is a hippy. He is joy. He is Geddy Lee.

:p

He gets a bit more creepy in majoras mask. For instance, early on, he asks you to get the mask, and when you don't get it, he flips out, strangling you while screaming how important it is to get the mask

Not exactly strangling, more like shaking you by the shoulders. Off the ground.

Strangling, shaking...Either way, he still loses it.

Maybe he was so stressed because he failed in his duty to protect the mask?
Wouldn't you be if you lost something as powerful and could mean your doom?

That's true, but I'm still not sure he had entirely good intentions with the mask though. Think to the end, where he mentions it losing power. If his job was just to make sure it didn't get in the wrong hands, wouldn't the mask losing power be reason for celebration? He seems almost disappointed that it no longer has the power to do things like send the moon crashing down

Maybe he feels lost now? what is his purpose now he has no mask to guard?

Give DarkScot a medal.

He's been holding onto that mask for some time and it's natural that if he had any evil intentions, he would have done something with it by now. Instead the mask itself seems to have called the Skull Kid in order to escape the Happy Mask Salesman, otherwise it would be calling to him instead. Maybe it's been doing that for some time and he's resisted.
