How much do you ACTUALLY know about your 3DS system?

Say from a scale from 1 to 10 how much you think you know and give 2-3 examples of what you know.

I'd give myself a 7.

I know about boss extdata and what it contains (ex. Nintendo Video videos)

I know about ARM kernels and what they do. For example there are 2 ARM chips, ARM11 and ARM9, ARM11 is the system itself, ARM9 is only used for security.

I know some 3DS internal names (Spider for internet browser on original 3DS for example)

I'd say 4 or 5 for me. Because I could be a walking tutorial for pretty much anyone who wants to do anything using currently released tools... but for now I didn't try to get too much into internal details :p
I'm much more of a calculator person actually as you can see on other forums.

For me it's a ~5! I know about the firmwares, I know how to do most of the stuff there is to do (including programming for it), but that's all. I never needed to learn any more and, in all sincerity, there is absolutely no need to! As long as you know how to do what you need to, that's enough!

PS: I know it's irrelevant, but @Hayleia, can you program for other calculator too? My TI-85 broke and it's impossible to find another one from the TI-86 and earlier, as they have been discontinued!

I know my 3DS can survive having a bucket of water dumped on it. That's all.

What do you mean by "other" ? Other than what ? :p
I can program in TI-Basic on all TI calcs supporting TI-Basic, but I don't like that. I can program in Axe on all calcs supporting Axe (not so many), and I can program in C on the TI Nspire series. Other than that, I either never tried or don't know the language (I don't know Lua for example).

Was that an intentional dumping water on it?

Let's see, i opened mine up and know how the circuit board looks like when i was soldering on it. So how much is that worth, i don't know much about its software.

4 I guess. I know the 3DS System itself and other of the basic stuff, but when it comes to the very technical parts, then I don't really know much. (e.g. Homebrew, Hacks)

To be honest, a 3 for me. I really don't know much. I tried looking into the contents of my sd card, but I didn't get anything. It was pretty hard to figure out what everything meant. I wish I knew more about it. I have a friend who knows like, everything about it though. In fact, he hacked his system I wish I knew more about it. So, I'm a 3.

Were you able to identify some parts other than the obvious ones?

I give my self a 9,
I understand loop proc and how the functions of many games work. I know how to decompile exploits. I am currently trying to create an exploit for Nintendo Anime channel. I know how to hijack userland processes and rework them. But you learn more everyday

Wow, you seem to know a lot more than I do. I wish I knew as much as you. Good luck finding an exploit for the Nintendo Anime channel.

I'd give a 10 because I had a 3DS for 4 years so it was easy figuring out the functions.

We are not talking only about "regular use" here, otherwise everyone would get 10.
For example, stupid question, but do you know what a CFW is ? If you don't, you have far less than 5 since I gave myself less than 5 and I know what it is (and I use several of them).

oh then consider me 3

I'd be 3 or so, because I know nothing about homebrew/exploits, that sort of thing. They seem pretty complex, and you need to know your stuff, one little mess-up, it could damage your 3DS. xD

I'm quite happy with not being so technical with my 3DS. I just play/use it like a regular handheld and that's all there is to it. :p

Nothing wrong, atleast you know your 3ds will live another day, but your missing out on homebrew

Depends.

First, homebrew-only exploits are harmless (the worst you can do is fail to get homebrew, but your 3DS is completely safe).
Some of them are completely easy (browserhax, if your 3DS still can run that, ninjhax, if you own Cubic Ninja, ...).
Then, you have the secondary ones (oothax, ironhax, menuhax) which aren't really difficult. Just run their installer, read what's written in that ugly font (you can see those installers weren't made by designers...) and do what it says (it tells you what key to press in what case).
And finally, you have smashbroshax. They say it works. They also say how to use it. Well, I think they say it, I didn't get anything :p

Then, the "harmful" things are CFW. They work better than homebrew but yeah, here, if you mess up, you're left with a brick. And to set one up on your 3DS, you have to follow a tutorial that takes two days just to read even without doing the instructions. But as long as you do everything that is written, everyone should be able to set one up.
