Is the 3DS in its final days?

I think the 3DS still has two or even three years left in it at least. The Wii U is not doing so great atm (unless Mario Kart and Smash change). So I don't think Nintendo's ready for a new handheld. I'd say a new handheld will be announced around 2016 at the earliest.

In terms of the games, I think the 3DS has had a pretty good year so far... But not as good as last years.

So what do you lot think?

The way they spread out games this year was horrible imo. They have like no first party games coming out later this year.

The way I see it, the gaming industry takes a slow turn every other year. Example: 2012 was average, 2013 was amazing. 2014 is average, 2015 looks amazing. I think the 3DS will start having more games seriously being developed for it after Nintendo finishes all of the Wii U games they just announced. Currently the only exclusive 3DS game I'm seeing for 3DS in 2015 is Project STEAM tho...:panda:

I think the next handheld will be announced next year at E3 then release in early 2017.

Hopefully not. I recently just bought my 3Ds. Around last year or so. But anyways, the past 3DS games weren't really much to me. Some games were really great, but some games were terrible. The new games coming around end-2014 and 2015 seem to be pretty amazing. I think some serious game development will start too begin, and the 3DS may start gaining more attention.

I HIGHLY doubt that the 3DS will be dead soon. Just think about it. They have smash, OR and AS, Codename STEAM, Shantae, Sonic Boom, and (maybe) Majora's Mask 3D coming within the next year or so. The most I'd expect them to do is to make a reboot of the system, like maybe a 3DS XXL, 2DS XL, 3DS with circle pad pro built in, etc. With this much stuff coming, it's highly unlikely.

Naww. We need time for SSB4 to come around and have everyone like everything Nintendo and everything will sink in. We wouldn't want to say goodbye to 3-4 year old handhelds. It's like saying the party is over before you think it really started. We don't need anything new any time soon. Just more accessories to buy.

I don't think on those next 20 years 3DS will be outdated what i mean it will always be playable my many person.

If the 3DS was to die in 2/3 years, that would be horrible, and I bet many people would stop buying Nintendo's handhelds.
It's true however that there was not many announcements for the 3DS at this E3, though.

But, I'm sure that it's a matter of time until we get first-party 3DS games, so, she clearly isn't dying.

The average time before a new console is released to succeed the previous one is six years. So the 3DS has six years before the next main Nintendo handheld is released, and even then it will continue to be popular like the PS2 and PSP continued to be in Japan. It can have up to ten more years in it, IMO, and this isn't just hopeless optimism. Given that Nintendo don't stop supporting it well, of course.

Well, duh, they want to push for more Wii U sales, considering how bad it is selling, so they announced a bunch of Wii U games. (And also have to Club Nintendo MK8 thing) With amiibo coming around, though, I have a feeling that both consoles will stay around for a while longer than most expect.

I don't think it's the end for 3DS. This little console still has the ability to make it big, honestly, it already has made it big in the handheld console field.

There is no way the 3S is at the end of it's lifespan. It will take at LEAST 4 more years for the 3DS to stop selling well and when no more quality games are released for it. There is still so much potential for it.

The 3DS is a great portable software and hardware. I think Nintendo would be bankrupt if they made a bad portable because of the wii u sales. The next portable should probably be announced next year and released in 2016. I don't know what kind of gimmick they will come up with like dual screen and touch screen for DS, Internet for DSi, and no glasses 3D for 3DS. I just hope it is amazing!

Nintendo isn't going to go bankrupt any time soon. They could make nothing, and I mean NOTHING for 20 years straight and still have plenty of money. You have to remember that they've been around since the 1800's making toys.

I wouldn't go that far, they've been losing money for a couple of years now.

It still doesn't matter, and like I said, them losing money for two years wouldn't do much at all.

I just got my 3DS in 2012 and I do not want to spend another $140 on a new device, if Nintendo drops Wii U support in addition to 3DS support I will literally go the Tokyo, go to their headquarters and smack that Mr. Iwata. (Just Kidding...)

A Nintendo Direct would announce it saying, "Please understand..."

Even with the Nintendo DS, after a few years of it's launch people thought that it was slowing down, and the sales started to kick back up eventually because of games like Pokemon that continuously kept releasing. I think every console, both portable and home, has experience this.

For the majority of 2014, I would say the Nintendo 3DS didn't do well based on the titles that's been released, but I'm positive at the end of this year/early 2015 the sales will sky-rocket, with games like Pokemon Omega Ruby (which is scheduled for November, late 2014) and Super Smash Bros. 4 (October 3rd), sales would be better than ever. As Nanamine said; it's a phase, one year is average, then the other is slow. I don't think the 3DS is in it's final-days, it has WAY too much potential and Nintendo knows that.
