Ahh, Smash Bros...If anyone has played Super Smash Bros. 64 up until now, you'd probably remember all the fun times you had playing it with friends or family, or both! :cat: I'm sure you recall seeing all the old items too, like the Ray Gun, Bumper, Home-Run Bat, and so on? Remember how fun it was to catch someone off guard, and SMASH!! Send them flying with bat in hand? X3 And you all laughed yourselves to tears? :hilarious: Or setting a Motion-Sensor Bomb sneakily somewhere on stage when your buds are duking it out somewhere, then you lure someone over? Surprise!! XD I like seeing all of the items they've added over the years, and it's so fun to experiment with them. Or to battle with them on! IMO, it's what makes it even more fun! :D

However, like probably most Smash Players, you may be the one who hates items because 'Only real Smashers play with no items'.. .-. And there's nothing wrong with that, really! Sometimes you may just wanna play with no items, but every single time??? To me, it sorta gets a bit boring because what the game originally had to shake things up is turned off. Battles in Smash have gotten a bit bland because of that, IMHO. That's probably why I prefer playing with my siblings more because we have so much fun with them on. ^o^ That doesn't mean we never play with them off, however. Sometimes we do, to test out moves. I mean, who wants to be perfecting a dunk, when a Bob-omb sneaks up behind you? Talk about unfortunate..

So, what styled-battles do you like more? Item Battles, or No-Item Battles?

When I'm playing something like 8 player smash, or even four, I love having some items. Adding to the chaos and making it more chaotic. Some of the best times can be had with items. But when I'm fighting my friends to see who better in sheer skill, items ruin the effect. I don't think anything beats the feeling of accomplishment when you beat your friend who's usually better than you. It's really a situational thing. I preffer no items, because I want to have a fair fight, but I will not turn down a good fight with items just for that reason. I guess it really depends how me and my friends are feeling. I don't play For Fun online because there's always too much lag but if i do dare, and there isn't lag, I have a great time.

Nothing much like your friend braging after a bob-ob throws itself in your way.

I feel about the same. I still haven't beaten my you get brother in a few matches we had. ;-; I still prefer items when we play Cuz it's really fun and full of surprises. Not to say I don't like a fight between skills, not at all! I just wish it wasn't like that Every. Single. Time. D:

That's exactly how I felt when I first started playing. But I was tired of losing so I spent an entire summer playing for hours and hours and hours and now I'd like to consider myself decent. But I digress. Items are fun, but shouldn't be tournament legal like they were when the tourney scene of Melee was born.

Oh, I see. I think I'm decent to a point. I would like to beat some of my rivals that have been hanging over my head, but I need to find my own weaknesses before I do. And yeah, stuff like tournaments should be without items, to test your skills! :3 I just don't like it when if you wanna play with items, you're considered some noob who doesn't know anything. (One reason I didn't wanna play with Akame, lol. XD )

I like items, but playing without allows my to practice my skills more for when you play a fair match against someone else. But practicing with items isn't too bad because some characters generate items. Like robin who i also like, and his tomes hit hard when thrown. Since finas smash are a unique move for a character it's sometimes dissapointing to leave it out the smash ball, but yeah it gives an unfair advantage.

@TheUltimateC : I can understand that. I mean, when using no items, use what you have learned to your advantage. (BTW, never knew that about Robin. ) Smash Balls have been my favorite items since Brawl, very nice touch. :D But I don't think it's that unfair, cuz you can dodge most of them if you're really good. My brothers and I used to try to see what could we do to dodge Final Smash attacks, so we went many rounds thinking of ways, and testing them out.

@P2.0 yeah if been practicing with robin but its hard to catch the sword or tome when you discard it, definetly on 3ds its sometimes hard to spot when its thrown and its as if you used an uncharged smash. Well i usually have a hard time dodging final smashes. (This is like impossible against lvl 9 npc's)

I think that both battles with items and without items are fun and good. Having items is a pretty fun element in the instance when you're playing online/ with friends. They add a little surprise during the battle, even though some of them are really OP (some Assist Trophies and Pokemon).

Battles without items is good in the competitive way, not giving a person a particular advantage to some sort.

I love battles with items!!! However, I only have a certain set of items I use. This list is the one I've been using with my brother and our friends for years, and it's been refined over the years to make sure only the best items can make the cut. We decided they made the game a bit more random without completely sacrificing competitive skill (in order to be able to do big damage on the baseball bat, you gotta know how to use it properly!!)
However, when I go online, it can be a little frustrating when there starts being food items and Bo-ombs and other such items deemed unworthy. I want to play with items, but only my perfect list!!!

Because I'm more of a competitive person. I'm basically the exact opposite. Items bore me. I've played with items a few times before but I like to improve when I see people that are better than me. It's what gives me motivation to even keep on playing smash.

I know you're a competitive player, lots of people are! But still, dude. Calling peeps noobs because they like playing with items on? You could find other people who lobe competitive Smash instead of folks who like to fight for fun. :3

For glory is too laggy and there really isn't anyone to play with on here whenever I feel like playing.

I say that most of the time I prefer to have Items off because it allows you to see who is better without RNG ruling over your lives. Items tend to be one-sided and can cause people to blame their losses on being too far from an item or their character's speed because you got to an item before them. Of course when I play for fun with friends I prefer Items to be on to add to the fun but online, items should always be off.

Whenever I play with my family & friends I tend to keep items on since it makes it more fun. Whenever we go 1v1 I always use no items. Much more fair that way

I do rarely play with items. I usually toggle them when my brother is playing with me, so he has a chance to win. However, with my friends, we're all set: It's no items, and FD stages only. That way, we can train and show our skills to the others. And it's as fun as when items are on.

Having items is for the more competitive players. I prefer to at least have some of them enabled because they can help turn the tide of a battle. Even just having the Smash Ball can do that with the added bonus of having your character do a special (sometimes one-of-a-kind) attack.
