have you seen very young kids with a smartphone, or perhaps a tablet? It's pretty common nowadays. I think they should at least be a teenager before getting anything like a phone or tablet. Spoilt kids these days. xD

They're usually glued to it all day as well, there are limits. :p

Well it's one thing if you are limited and that when you are younger but when they are in the teen age they should be able to make some of their own decisions. It's not like there is solid evidence it is melting kids brains or they are less successful than those who are limited and have to listen to their parents (maybe complain) all the time. Then again you can't prove it helps them either and it goes both ways. I'm sure there are really young kids that play their parent's smartphones some if not their own. Yes as a younger child though they need to see the world and how stuff works rather than play some phone flash game where you know they are wasting their time not putting any thought into it. Heck give them an indestructible RC toy and let them drive it around in a safe place showing them some tech isn't bad but you still have to take care of it.

Problem is they may be too young to even care for such devices. Who knows, they may end up dropping it multiple times (case/protector is highly recommended). They're not sure how to look after them properly, so that's why it may not be a good idea.

I have a flip phone.... xD Anyways yeah I agree, kids should at least be 13 or older before even needing any use for a phone or tablet. I remember when my little sister got an ipod 4 for her 8th (or 9th) birthday and she has barely touched it since.

Kids with phones is one of the most annoying things I've ever seen. Of course, anyone staring at their phone and not listening when I'm trying to talk to them is grating, but kids with phones is altogether infuriating. As far as I've seen it always does harm and no good, but that's probably because of people's mentality here and so I won't say 'kids shouldn't have phones or they'll become serial killers.'

Oh, and personally, I intend to never keep a phone. I've done without one this far, after all :D

Admittedly I got my first phone (which was an iPhone 3GS) when I was only 11, so I guess you could say I was one of those kids with technology. I had reasons for it though (That was when I first started staying by myself full time). I'd say the best age limit is no younger than 10-11 but kids that young should only have a phone if they have a good reason for it (like mine), and other than that they should wait until they're 13-14. I have seen younger children playing a game on their parents' phones, especially in a situation like waiting at a restaraunt or similar place, and personally I believe that's different than if they are constantly staring at the screen 24/7. When I'm at a restaraunt I usually bring my tablet or 3DS because even now I have issues with impatience so I need something to keep me occupied.

I got my first brick when I was about 10, but that was for safety reasons. Even then, I never used it. It was horrible. I have to admit that I was somewhat shocked when I was walking past a park and some kids we're talking about iOS 8. All kids need is a simple phone to contact their parents and friends, right? They shouldn't need to browse the interweb, and do whatever mumbo-jumbo a smartphone can do.

I shake my head whenever I see my seven year old cousins with their faces glued to their laptops. They're growing up too fast--
I mean seriously, the internet is no place for a child to surf around by him/herself. They're learning things they shouldn't for a loooong while.

My brother has a friend who's sister has an iPhone 6 plus and she's 7. She onoy has it because she wanted it. That family's kids are spoiled though. There son order a $100 signed captain sparkles lunchbox because he thought it would become valuable. Captain sparkles isn't famous you'll be luck if you get $2 for it

Well, you see, that's typically the definition of what you might encounter in my school.

I do use my phone, but it's really rare, and it's generally to either check the time, or call somebody because I finished early at school. But people in my school... are basically kiddies with the latest Samsung device or the latest iPhone, because according to them: "Something that doesn't run iOS/Android is c***" or "Your phone sucks. It can't even run games!".

So, for me, I think somebody should get a phone only when it becomes an absolute necessity. Otherwise, if they don't really need it, they shouldn't get one.

A lot of children just have phones to play games. They don't do ANYTHING except for games on their phone. Personally, I think giving a child technology (high tech, like iPhone) is bad parenting because the parents just want to rid their child from bothering them.

I totally agree, I see kids walking around looking at their phones, instead of talking to each other, which is making their social skills weaker. i hate to see kids doing that, and the "social media" is not really making everybody social, instead it makes their attitudes worsen. Parents need to think before they give children a device like an Iphone.

I don't really mind them as long as it belongs to their parents and they control their kids well.
Sometimes it can be really annoying. I and my mom met this around 2-years old kid playing an ipad on a 10 hour long flight. She is super annoying, banging and slapping the ipad. I and my mom couldn't sleep the whole 10 hours! What worse is her mom did nothing! Only saying sorry.

As long as there's educational games, they're fine.

Well, I have to disagree with you as these smartphones and tablets are being used for everything and I thinks it's quite good for kids to learn how to use them properly at a young age it will benefit them, I don't think they should have smartphones but I think iPod touch and iPads are ok but they should have protective cases.

Not all the time if the parent puts time limits for using the device, like one hour a day I think that's fine and not at all bad parenting.
