While The Legend of Zelda protagonist Link has always been a male character, Nintendo - or possibly Koei - toyed with the idea of a female variation of the Hero of Time in developing Hyrule Warriors.
This potential character design was revealed in scans of the game's Japanese art book (thanks, GoNintendo).
The label next to this lady Link labels the character "Rinkuru," which Kotaku suggests would be translated to "Linkle" in English.
Kotaku also noted that this lady Link appears in a page labelled "previously unseen rejected characters," and she's described as a "girl version of hero Link." The art book said that she was "devised as being sister-like" - specifically like a little sister, as younger and older siblings have different words in Japanese. It's a fun language. so was link meant to be a girl in hyrule warriors. what do you think, should thier have been a female link.

It's unclear if "Linkle" will actually be in Hyrule Warriors, but she represents a willingness on Nintendo's part to explore a different gender for Link, so perhaps the next proper Zelda adventure will give players a choice between male or female Hylian heroes.

I think fans have often discussed - on 3DS Pedia as well - that there should be a female version of Link because Link is more or less the player's avatar in the game. It might affect the franchise for players who've been fans for a long time, but my attitude towards it has changed over time and I think it'd be cool.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've made female Link designs every time and scrapped them because of how players would react.

well i don't think that the female link should be a main character to say. but i do believe that one should be able to be a playable character. Ifa female link was to be the main character, then it have to be outside the hero of time story line. starting with oot, and ending with skyward sword. they'd have to add a completely new timeline in order to make her the hero. they probably will do it someday, just not today

well your in luck. thier is a zelda game where zelda saves link. ZELDA:THE WAND OF GAMELON. just a warning, it is one of the must horrid zelda games alive. infact one of the most terrible games alive. its juet god awful. but hey, atleast zelda got to save link

I wouldn't really mind seeing a female link in a game.. or a sister, for what it is. Hope they make a professor Oak-like screen: "are you a boy or a girl" and you get to chose if to be link or linkle. hahahah that'd be awesome

I wouldn't mind a female Link game if they can make it without making it seem sexy.

Female Link on the other hand would seem quite possible in some kind of spin off (like Hyrule Warriors) but it would get much time to plan and make actual game with femLink since male Link has already been canon in games (and players are quite used to male Link) so yes it's possible but it takes long process

Or female Link can be Link's younger sister from wind waker just having her name changed

I have honestly never play Hyrule Hero's since my Wii U is not with me and buying the game here is expensive and pointless. But I'm surprised that there is a parallel Link that's a girl unlike the normal Link which astonished me Nintendo would make a small gimmick like that. :D

In a spinoff, like Hyrule Warriors, I think a female Link would be neat. In the actual storyline, having a female Link would be really strange. I just don't see Nintendo doing something like that, because it would ruin the series for many players.

I think having a choice would be awesome. Kinda Pokémon-esque, but awesome. I just hope that if Nintendo does go that route, they don't overly sexualize the female verion of Link.

Female!Link interesting I would love to play it, but I hope that will also allow you the option to play Link too and if not play as him then let him assist you in the game! How much fun would it be to fight alongside Link!?

If you played Bayonetta 2 in Wii U, there's a 'Link' costume that you can use for Bayonetta (the main character). They used 'Hero of Hyrule' for naming it, not 'Link costume'. Do check it out because it looks awesome in gameplay.

I guess it would be awesome if Linkle is an unlockable special character, the one you'll get if you succeed in a specific secret task.

more or less if link the girl is added then the entire world would go genderbender. zelda will be a prince. and ganondorf a woman.............oh crap what about tingle........

Well, that would be interesting to say the least. But what about the names? Would they stay the same, or would Nintendo figure out genderbent versions of them?

Personally, I would actually like to see that played out. I think an entirely genderbent game would be so much fun.

yeah it might. i think i know the perfect names. zelda would be zed. ganondorf would be gana. and link would be linkel. idk thats the best i got
