More characters leaked thanks to the latest update

(This seems to concern both versions of SSB4, but, this might be a rumour. Proceed with caution, as I won't be responsible for uncontrollable hype, or deception or any other kind of reaction)

According to a new post in Reddit's /r/smashbros section, an user called shinyquaqsire23 allegedly decrypted Smash Bros 3DS's 1.0.6 update and found some interesting stuff in it.

Here's the full listing of what he found:

Ok, so I just got the latest update decrypted, and I think I have some news which might be rather interesting.

First things first, new sounds. In /romfs/sound/bgm we have a slew of new sounds (and some old ones from prior updates since each update overwrites the other). The list is:

Now obviously the biggest sticklers are Ryu, Mewtwo, Roy, and Lucas. Not sure who Ryu is (although if anyone does know, please tell),. However, Roy most intrigued me. Did they update the koopa kid's sound for some reason? Or is there more?

So I converted the 4 sounds which most stuck out to me:

• snd_bgm_Z82_F_Lucas_3DS
• snd_bgm_Z83_F_Roy_3DS

Most of these are victory screens, all but the first Ryu sound file which seems to be a new stage. Now here's the kicker: Roy's victory theme is the Fire Emblem victory theme.

Yes, we're getting Roy back guys!

I'll continue exploring around if I can, it's a bit late here unfortunately and I might not be back for a while though.

EDIT: I just looked into it, apparently Ryu is from Street Fighter

EDIT 2: Went ahead and ran a file listing on every updated file (although, granted, this also includes every update from before 1.06), txt file is here. Nothing too special, wouldn't run to any conclusions from just a file list.

EDIT 3: Just to clarify, this is from a 3DS decryption, not Wii U. No idea what's in the Wii U files, and I don't have a Wii U to verify that.

EDIT 4: As some people pointed out, these could also be scrap files, no guarantees on anything yet. Really interesting though.

Edit 5: RIP Dropbox links. Might have to find another place to throw them.

So, apparently, though we can't jump to conclusions yet, there might be evidence that Ryu from Street Fighter and Roy from Fire Emblem (not the Koopaling this time) might come back.

Assuming this was found in the 3DS version, maybe the Wii U version also contain those. But given the Wii U hasn't been "hacked" (as in "browsing game files to know what can be found", not piracy), there's no way to prove it. But the presence of the other DLCs' data can reinforce the plausibility of this rumour.

Well, I'm hoping it's real. Ryu would be an interesting character to play in Smash (Considering he's used to 1v1 battles), and his final Smash could be a huge Hadouken :3
And Roy was one of my favorite Melee characters, so I'd be excited if he returned too!

i'd love too see Roy come back for ssb4! i've never played a street fighter game myself, so it'll be fun to see how ryu would be used

I won`t get my hopes up, but seeing that there is a chance that Roy, our boy, may Return! It would also be interesting to see a streetfighter character in smash, considering that allthough both smash bros. and Street fighter are fighting games, they are so different. No Shovel Knight though...

I'd love to see them in smash i really hope its real! I loved playing as roy in melee, And ryu would be a awesome player in smash XD His move set would just be INCREDIBLE! I love playing street fighter (have the original on ps2 and i play it on my xbox every now and then) So i hope its real XD...But most of these leaks have been fake so most likely its fake.

Super Smash Brothers and Street Fighter are so different fighting games that I don't think it would blend well...
Of course we want as many characters as possible, but there are better chars to include, like Rayman and Bayonetta.

Well, if Solid Snake made it in, then Street Fighter is relatively not all that different

Yes, but they had to imagine "how Snake would fight" and create that style. You can think of Snake as a whole-new character, just with some "powers" from his games.

In Ryu's case, his fighting style probably would be the same as in Street, and think it would be OP.

Don't worry, they'd probably nerf it (if the "leak" is real). Everybody knows that OP characters in Smash gets nerfed one day or another (look at Diddy Kong who lost his Hoo-Hah combo).

Wow ! That really sounds so cool Hope that this turns out to be true since Ryu is a cool character to play even though very different in the games . I always like new characters so I hope this one is good too . It would also be cool to have Roy *dies from hypeness*

Very interesting. I would really like to see these characters, included in this update. I am looking forward to the characters. It might be dlc because they updated the game, but no new characters.

Games like Street Fighter and Tekken I played on arcade machines all the time when I was younger because my camp had them.
And while Tekken is cool, I don't think they have a character quite like Ryu who would fit into Smash. Most of Tekken doesn't have a mascot like Ryu (well, to a point they do, but not nearly as well known as Ryu) and creating a moveset would be hard. Plus, it'd kinda get violent.

But my gosh I hope to the end if the universe this is real..... I love Ryu

Snake not being in isn't a surprise since there are already a few third parties (although Snake has an awesome series). I want this to be fake or a trick because we already have Lucina (and customs) so I have no need for wanting Roy. Ryu does sound like a cool character that would fit Smash (although Lucario was supposed to fill the Street Fighter-ish style of play I thought) however since Mega Man is in Smash why not Ryu.

I would be glad if roy came back because I don't think characters should ever be cut except for maybe pichu but yea and ryu would be awesome because first of all street fighter is my favirote fighting series besides smash brothers and it would be easy to give him good moves.

Although I like Ryu, he has his own "version" of Super Smash Bros., that being Marvel vs Capcom. Should he be in another? Maybe. No doubt he woud be a good smash fighter, though. I can see Ryu having a lot of different Custom moves, since most of his moves require a sequence of joystick movements and button presses.

Roy seemed a little short in Melee; not much taller than Young Link. Other than that, his moveset was formidable. I wouldn't mind him coming back (if this decryption is even relevant to future characters).
