To be honest, a drawing contest would be hard to judge, but how you put it makes it sound fun to at least try . (Since you added some suggestions)Since this is a creative contest, they contestants in your contests should be tested to do something creative. Basically anything that will get you thinking what you would do.
I think you should do a character creation with Mii and stuff.
Set a theme for the Mii, and choose which one you like.
Or you can do a drawing contest, digital or hand drawn (If I were entering I would prefer Hand Drawn cause you don't need fancy paint programs.
Creation of Manga characters, or design contest for Nintendo like characters. (Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, etc.)
That would fall into what the others have said as well. Combining it all, that would probably be the main thing in any drawing or story contest.

It would be kinda cool to have this since I don't really think it has been done before and it might actually be fun and cool to see some talents from people here where perhaps like every month is a different one and the staff member being the judge themselves, it's be quite cool to draw stuff anything that would be related to their character and such

- First one would probably be something like a Musical Contest ( I did state this somewhere in the Shout Box
- Next off is something rather secondary, but maybe a Drawing Contest where by you'd draw ( Hand/Digital ) some sort of avatar for the staff members

I'd probably need some judges to help me >w<In case of a music contest, maybe you should allow people to create their own songs. It would also be fun to let people try to make tunes digitally (with Garage Band for instance) or make their own remixes so that shy people and people who don't sing/play an instrument can compete too.
