I'm really, really  over this. Nintendo are going buddy-buddy with DeNA (a Japanese mobile gaming giant) for smartphone games and ALL Nintendo IP can potentially get games. And Nintendo are working on a new console, although details are non-existent besides that it exists.

Details here: http://3dspedia.com/nintendo-dena-alliance-nx/
I was cursing my internet for being slow the whole time I wrote that.

Really sudden and  inducing. Whaddaya guys think?

Darn it. I was about to make a thread about this but you were quicker. Should've known :p I found the info here: http://kotaku.com/nintendo-teams-up-is-making-smartphone-games-1691865881

On topic: It's about time Nintendo entered the mobile market. There are so many people who already dreamed and tried to make (fake) nintendo games for their smartphones and tablets. I wonder if these games will do justice to nintendos gaming legacy though. Platformers like Mario could easily be transfered to the world of mobile gaming and stuff like pokémon should be able to go there without real problems too, but what about games like the Mario rpgs? Tey don't seem suited for mobile gaming. Let's hope Nintendo will be wise with what games they choose.

As with the new console; of course Nintendo is developing new stuff, that's what they do. No big surprises there. Though I am curious about what it is. A new New New 3ds? :p

Personally, I think it'll be a home console. It'd be too soon after the N3DS for another handheld. I think we'll see it in 2017, probably, a successor to the Wii U. After all, the average life for a successful home console before its successor becomes available is six years, so five years for the Wii U... :panda:

Yeah that's probably more likely. But then again it seems like the "new cn" (whatever it may be) will connect the wii u and the nx. So they'd be parallel. That would be a strange move. Any chance it's something all new? Still, I wish they would create a console so awesome and so easy to upgrade that they don't need to release so many new ones... A bit like project Ara. (Ugh...I have to wait until August...)

This video: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/first-details-of-nintendo-s-next-system-the-nx/1100-6425959/ makes me think that the NX might be Nintendo's own smartphone. Since DeNA will play a big role in the development of the NX and the DeNA is specialised in mobile phone software... That would be interesting, a nintendo gaming phone. There are so many people who would want something like that, I have already seen fanmade concept art. They would strike it rich.

I think it'll be a hybrid console, a portable that you can connect to the TV.
I've read about a "Nintendo Fusion" project before that was just like that. But of course, it was only speculation by the time.

I'm not sure how I should react to this. I mean, aren't there enough low-quality titles on the Play Store and App Store already?
I'm certainly not excited for this to be honest. I have a feeling that if Nintendo does plan on bringing some main franchises like Zelda and Pokemon to mobile, it would lead to a drop in the quality of games that were actually meant for dedicated gaming systems.

Oh well, only time will tell...(Dat rhyme :giggle: )

Who knows? Maybe they will publish some really good games. Mobile gaming is usually quite casual though, while nintendo is famous for their intensity ("nintendo-hard" anyone?) so I wonder how they will deal with that. I agree, only time will tell.

^.^ I am so happy that they finally decided to do this since the android and other mobile devices are becoming very popular right now!

I could see Warioware and Rhythm Heaven as smartphone games. Pokemon Shuffle is already basically a smartphone styled game. The NX seems like a typical smartphone with buttons on the side. Like half of a DS with a bigger screen (and no R/L button) I'm guessing.

It's all speculation, and not solid one at all at that, yet. I think people are associating it with smartphone games because they had the same press conference, but I think that's completely in reverse. Iwata was trying to ascertain that Nintendo was not abandoning its own hardware and differentiating the DeNA guacamole with Nintendo's own R&D stuff, which makes it pretty clear it's not smartphone-y, or he'd have said something. All the lengthy articles people whipped up in the last couple of hours about the NX add up to, 'I don't really know and none of us will until 2016.'

I do hope we'll get some more info before 2016 though... just a tiny bit?

It'll probably get forced out of Nintendo since they've confirmed it. I mean, they will have to drop a little snippet now and then now that people know about it.
I bet Reggie will break first :p

Not expecting anything substantial till next year, though.

Well, if it's Japanese, then, there's probably nothing to get excited about (Do you think they'll region-lock potential mobile games as well ?)

On another hand, I hope this "console" won't be another smack in the face a la "New 3DS". Because if that's the case, they can already prepare themselves to lose a lot of money.

So, for now, the mystery remains... But I hope it won't be something that Nintendo will exploit to "punch" us directly in the face.

Really excited for this to happen now! It'll be cool to finally see nintendo enter the handheld smartphone market. They might make it able to act as a third screen or something for new 3ds and wii u. As for the new console, looks pretty good but they better not just drop the 3ds and new 3ds games once they release it

It could turn out amazinly well or rubbish. I hole it goes well because theyll branch out and and more money from the mobile industry.

Knowing this news just now , I would say that it was about time that Nintendo make some mobile games for the smartphone because this idea was probably thought a very long time ago by some Nintendo fans and I look forward to that as well . Though I am not too happy about a new console , depending on exactly what it is ...

I can't believe it but its true. Nintendo is making apps for mobile devices yes they are doing what Sega is doing but they are not putting on ports (if they go mobile I at least want pokemon red/blue or yellow)
what do you think I think I hate to say it but nintendo is starting to give up soon there might just be Xbox and playstation....

Nintendo is not giving up on the console market, the mobile games will most likely just be advertisements for the 3DS/Wii U.
