PkMn Go Pokémon Go Which team to join?

In a few short hours Pokémon Go is likely to launch here. (So hyped!) At level 5, which I might just reach on day one (who cares about sleep?) you'll be asked to join a team. But which to choose?!
This thread is meant to help Pokémon Go newbies choose their team. You can post why someone should go for a team or you can ask for help. If you're asking for help, please give some info on yourself!

I did my research.

The Yellow Team is called Instinct and as of now they're the underdogs. They're basically the Hufflepuf of Pokémon Go and are supposed to have blind faith in their critters.

The Blue Team is called Mystic and they're currently most popular. Since I started this Harry Potter anology I'd say this is Ravenclaw (for intellect) mixed with Slytherin for cunning.

The Red Team is called Valor and is right behind Mystic in popularity. They're in it for da powah and are highly fanatic, using sneak tactics to take over gyms by night. I guess they're Griffindor except they're as powerhungry as Slytherin.

Some info on me:
-I plan on getting Pikachu as a starter
-I'm VERY competitive (I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was)
-In real life I'm brains over brawn. Intellect all the way
-I like Articuno best
-I really like the colour red
-I want an active team community
-No idea what region is dominating this region and I don't really care, I travel a lot
-I'm not really the calm analysis type, I'm usually all fired up and doing the analysis nonetheless
-The only team description that didn't make me snigger is team instinct
-I absolutely hate the name Team Instinct
-As for the Reddits, Mystic is definitely best organised but buy are they boring and civil. Valor is a mess but it does look fun. Instinct is the inbetweeny with reasonable order and fun.

First thing I found out about those teams I was torn between Valor (because out of the three birds Moltres is my favorite) and Mystic (because that Articuno logo looks so cool). But in the end I'm gonna go with Mystic because in real life I'm always trying to keep my cool and besides, that blue Articuno logo looks so cool *-* hah, cool, get it? :3

Small update: I'm too lazy to reset to get Pikachu so I'm going with Charmander instead.
Also, I have Pokémon Go now! It required me to deleted half my apps and make some new accounts but it was totally worth it.

I love the colour blue and so I'll most likely go with team blue. What's the difference between the teams though? Like do they have perks for each team or are they just a kinda aesthetic feature?

I tried getting a Pikachu but my phone glitched out and I got a Bulbasaur instead >.<

In game it's the aesthetics and their motto.
But those things attract different people, resulting in actual differences between the teams. Valor (red) are generally very competitive (they are infamous for taking over gyms at night), Mystic (blue) is very well organised (you should see their Reddit!) whereas Instinct(yellow) appears to be in it for the challenge, posting their wins everywhere.

Well I'm team Mystic for many reasons and I think you should pick team Mystic.
There are a ton of team Mystic gyms everywhere so you can drop Pokemon there and get tons of coins. Plus if your favorite is Articuno then pick team Mystic plus team Mystic gyms are everywhere. I went to many polls on Twitter deciding which team they like the most and well

When you travel around a lot you'll see almost no team Instincts just warning you about that.
Overall there is no difference between picking which team but just remember pick team Mystic or the best next thing team Instinct.

In my area Mystic is non-existent. There's instinct and Valor, no blue gyms at all. I'm starting to hang towards Valor since the community seems way more fun. Mystic is rather serious and there's a bunch of people who just play mystic for the perks, without any team spirit at all. Since I live in Europe, my country is quite undecided now (since the app has yet to officially launch here) , might as well join the second best team? (No love for Instinct.)

Team Valor for the win because Pokemon Red was the first Pokemon game I played and I choose Charmander as my starter.
Plus its really fun in Valor because I see a lot of Team Valor everywhere and they are really and truly friendly.
However I don't want to force you in to a team you don't want and dislike when you pick it but this was my opinion and I hope you pick Team Valor.

My favorite version out of the three is blue, and Articuno is my second favorite Pokemon (Suicune is first, of course)!

UPDATE: I joined Valor. they dominate the region (although Mystic is pretty big too and Instinct does make some feeble attempts every now and then) and the Valor community seemed a lot of fun. Thanks for all the advice.

Kek there's a gym next to my house that those nooblings on Instinct keep trying to take. Emphasis on "trying". Mystic is obviously the best. Just look at how majestic Articuno and the color blue is. Who picks Instinct nowadays? Lel jk, jk.

You're to late now. VALOR FOR VICTORY! Instinct is cute, I like the fact that you guys are trying, and at least you're not as boring as Mystic. (Ever visited their Reddit?) Nonetheless, Instinct doesn't stand a chance. Getting the White House? Big deal. Gym like every other. Plus, you can't keep your gyms longer than a day.

Just go with whatever team represents your favourite legendary bird. It might be the case that you can only get the mascot of your team, and I'd rather Moltres than Zapdos or Articuno.
