It's Mario and Mario Kart,Since this is a Mario kart discussion
It's Mario and Mario Kart,
As for the question, I'd go with Mario Kart 7. I've played both of them before and honestly, I was disappointed in 3D Land. It lacked bosses, the only challenging gameplay you'll encounter is in the special worlds when the bosses go "bye bye" and I'm not really a fan of the "collect XX green stars just to progress further" idea. Don't let me get started on the invincibility leaf, but that's an optional item. You have the choice not to use it, however, it tempts you when you keep losing >.< and you may use it at some point and lose that feeling of achievement when you do actually beat it but never got the chance to.
On top of that, Mario Kart 7 has replay value because of online play over Wi-Fi.
Imo, I think the star coins to progress system worked great. In fact I never got stuck at one of those points because I always had more than enough. If you play Mario as if the 3 star coins are a requirement, then it adds much more challenge and makes it more fun. Also, if you ever used the invincibility leaf, for shame! Anyway, how's MK7's online as of now? I've been thinking of picking it up after I get Monster Hunter 4, but a lacking online community would kill it for me. And unrelated, but same with Animal Crossing - is online still alive? It's Mario and Mario Kart,

Lol, you just copied this off the description on the back of the box of MK7 XDI would go with Mario kart 7 because Mario Kart franchise brings Mushroom Kingdom racing fun into glorious 3D. For the first time, drivers explore new competitive kart possibilities, such as soaring through the skies or plunging to the depths of the sea. New courses, strategic new abilities and customizable karts bring the racing excitement to new heights.#
I agree that 3d land might seem a bit easy but it's quite hard when completing a save file %100 or at least getting five crowns or stars in my perspective. It's really fun to play too and hard to get bored of easily. They are both great games, but I'd prefer Super Mario 3D land for it's fun game play style.
Racing is better with friends, yeah, but if you're competitive you've got things like the Time Trials to keep you occupied. There's also stuff like online multiplayer, so you can't go wrong with it, reallyThanks guys, but is racing really that fun?
