I don't really know about Ness or Lucas as they are really vulnerable to meteor smashes. Personally Mario, or captain falcon. You can talk about Mario ' s recovery but most of the time when you're trying to recover the up special is not the only thing you'll use plus that cape is perfect for annoying people. Also to note this is coming from someone who hates mario ( the character not the games.) I have always liked Luigi and Yoshi better.

Now, when you play as Ganondorf you wonder what he could do if he was faster and had easier combos. That is captain falcon. He is clearly great. With many combos and fast pace knees to the face. Come at me Lucina.

Imo you put Capt. Falcon too high. He's more of a styling character and is harder to hit with unless you get some sort of read.

Not really. I've seen a competitive match with Roy and Diddy and Diddy won, mainly because imo Roy had trouble hitting Diddy and he depends on close range combat which is the most risky. Roy is probably in top 15 or just below it.

The tier list might not be totally solid yet but there are some clear factors that are totally going to play a huge role in determining ranking - speedy characters by and large blow the slow ones out of the water, and good grabs are clearly the meta this time around. I think Falcon will be a solid high tier - maybe not top 5, but probably top 10. He's fast, has a ridiculous dash grab, can combo out of that grab, and, to seal the deal, pretty much every one of his moves is a kill move. A good Falcon is scary.

Roy and Lucas are both probably solid top 15s. If anybody could figure out how to play Ryu he'd probably be up there as well. I'm not a top level player so I can't claim total authority, but I think it can be said in confidence that Rosalina and Sheik are pretty much the unquestionable best in the game. After that it's a bit foggy thanks to all these patches. Before the Roy/Ryu/Lucas update Luigi was definitely top 5. His grab game seems to have gotten changed up some, so he's probably fallen a bit.

And, if not Swordsman, then Samus is probably the worst character in the game at the moment - which makes me wonder what Sakurai was talking about at that SSB4 tournament last year or so when he said Samus was the best character in the game.

I can completely understand how faster characters get an advantage but that doesn't mean because a character has a slow run speed he's necessarily low on the tier list as you can still try an input buttons fast enough/or predict good enough to get an upper hand and you can consider jump speed as really fast for every character if you jump low and fastfall and add in aerials any character can be a threat. I'm not saying falcon isn't bad, he just requires a little more skill (not that top tier characters don't require skill). But consider Fox compared to Falcon he's way faster and can rack up damage fairly easy while Falcon has some good moves at his disposal but may be punishable easier when adding in specials and Fox has better recovery options.

Swordsman imo is the faster but weaker Ike with a projectile (especially at default 1111 moveset). Their aerials have similar motions, their up specials can spike when done right, they both have a counter... I think not many people like to try out the Mii fighters but given at small size their speed they could easily be a tier similar to Mario. Samus is a good character too (look at Esam's Samus) but I agree she's just a hard character to use that may depend on projectiles/reads more than most characters but at least her Nair is better and her aerials are okay but if you ever heard from Zero her jab sucks and for most characters that's how they rack up damage.

Oh, totally, but they do have the advantage and by and large they'll be the ones getting high places on the tier list. Just for example, Pikachu's quick attack can pretty much harass characters like Bowser for free with very little chance of recourse.

Oh, totally. If I went to the trouble of making a tier list, I'd probably put Fox and Falcon right next to each other (though with my lack of experience I probably wouldn't go so far as to claim one over the other, especially since I don't play Fox or Falcon). They're both totally solid characters and either in or around top 10.

I've been playing a little bit with the Mii Fighters since I finally got a bunch of costumes and have been having a lot of fun playing all these fun Miis I made. Brawler's fun and powerful and doesn't quite play like anyone else. Gunner's so-so but I'm not too certain about that one. Swordsman just plays like a bad FE character. It doesn't really bring anything to the table that another character does better. It's the most unimpressive sword-user in the game. I'd argue Mario is a solid high mid tier - maybe even top 15, but I haven't really sat down to think about it. Brawler could totally be up there with him, but the other two would never make it that high.

Samus is a good character too (look at Esam's Samus) but I agree she's just a hard character to use that may depend on projectiles/reads more than most characters but at least her Nair is better and her aerials are okay
I mean, you're always going to find exceptions based on player skill. Tier lists aren't the 100% be-all-end-all (which I think is the reason why a lot of inexperienced or newer players reject them as nonsense), but they are a general guideline - as we both know. Samus can zone and camp pretty decently, but the instant you take her off Final Destination she's losing a lot of the advantage she had. I'm not saying Samus is bad - the great thing about Smash 4 is how even the low tiers can be pretty effective - but her options aren't too great in most circumstances and has a roll that's awful like Yoshi's but has none of the character shenanigans that make Yoshi great. In essence, it's just that she's bad comparatively. ZSS, meanwhile, is solid top 5.

her jab sucks and for most characters that's how they rack up damage.
And then there's this. Completing Samus' jab is like screwing yourself over.

I wouldn't say ganging up. I'm not teaming with @m4rxd3m0n or anything, but yeah I am arguing about what you said :p I'm just stating stuff that is true about Ness and Lucas.
