So is yamask on here lol? or at least on your personal top 30 list? (where you judge based off of coolness)
In neither. Despite being my favorite generation, I don't like most of the gen 5 designs
Changing topics from the very random Morgan Freeman playing Smash talk, lets discuss something more Pokémon related... like Enchanted Swords!
26. Honedge (XY)
Unlike most Pokémon in this list, Honedge doesn't rely on any weird gimmick to be great. Is not an over leveled Pokémon you get earlier than you should, or a Pokémon with insane base stats for a certain point of the game, or a Pokémon that evolves way earlier than it should, or a Pokémon with a broken ability or move. Honedge is just a genuinely solid Pokémon.
...I guess its final form has a bit of a gimmick, but I will talk about that when the time comes.
Honedge is available to the player for the first time in Route 6, with decent stats and owning the best typing in the series, Ghost/Steel (rivaled only by Steel/Fairy, but Klefki is bad and Magearna doesn't exist). This is the main of Honedge's attributes, having 9 resistances and 3 inmunities, most of them being to common types, and while it does have 4 weaknesses, most of them are uncommon or easy to cover types... or you can let Honedge take the hit since is bulky enough to do so.
Until it evolves at level 35, Honedge's typing will carry it during the parts of the game where its stats lack the most, where its main game plan will be taking hits as it Swords Dances up and then hit the opponent until it dies. As simple as a game plan can get, and Honedge happens to be really good at it.
Honedge evolves to Doublade at level 35, gaining an specially good boost to its attack and defense. Then it needs a Dusk Stone to evolve into Aegislash, but unlike Miccino's Shiny Stone which is available right away, the Dusk Stone is very rare. There are several RNG reliant methods to obtain it early, but the only consistent Dusk Stone available before the postgame is in Terminus Cave, which is right after the final Lyssandre battle and before the final gym leader, so pretty late into the game. Once you manage to evolve it, it while become unstoppable with its essentially 60/150/150 /150/150/60 stats thanks to its ability. Add to that its still relevant typing and King Shield, a Protect equivalent that drops the attack of the adversary if it makes contact with it, and thus making set up shenanigans even easier to pull off, and you will have an endgame monster.
If you have been reading this, you can probably guess Honedge main weakness: It takes too long to evolve. Honedge starts feeling like a dead weight when is reaching levels 30-35, when several of your opponents have already fully evolved and Honedge stats start to feel less impressive, and then another big wait comes up for it to evolve into Aegislash. Staying not fully evolved for most of the game makes it a great candidate of Shalour City's Eviolite, which just increases its decent bulk and works well with its typing and playstyle. A problem with Aegislash exclusively is King Shield's PP, which is one of the moves that will be using at least once per battle or more, while only having 10 uses before it needs to use a Leppa Berry or go to the Pokémon Center, not the biggest of issues, but is worth pointing out.
Honedge's is quite an unique Pokémon, its final form's many attributes made him an insane threat in the competitive environment, and many of those same attributes is what it let it be around THE BEST OF
