I like both to be honest.

I'm going to go with Retro, since the only game from the series I liked was actually the spin-off Mario Picross for the GBC! I also, moderately only, liked Super Mario Bros.2 and 3, so yes, I'm choosing those.

I prefer the modern Mario. There's always something new and cool going on with him as the games progressed, from clearing his name after being accused of crime he didn't commit, to playing soccer, tennis, and basketball with his friends (or taking on the NBA via his appearance in the GCN version of NBA Vol. 3), traveling to space, and getting his classic style of gameplay in a new 3D World. I'll give it to the retro as it's what got me into Mario and Nintendo. But I look towards the future.

Modernized mario games are fun, but I had an insane amount of more fun with Super Mario Bros. 1, 3, and Super Mario 64. I played through those games like there was not going to be another sunrise in the sky ever again. xD Anyway, Retro Mario will always have a special room number in my nostalgia hotel. :p

I personally like them both because the more recent games such as the titles for Wii (Galaxy 1 & 2) and Wii U (New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World) are pretty awesome. I still enjoy the old classics such as Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World and Legend of the seven stars (RPG for SNES). Both versions, old and new, are good in their own ways. :D

Ugh... That is really hard to decide, I consider both really fun, 3d world, galaxy, new super mario bros u were such amazing games. New super mario bros 3 and super mario world were awesome too. Both had such amazing things in them, its just way too hard to decide, that is like saying retro vs new and I like both!

retro

Both of them are really awesome to me though the new ones have more modern-ish feel when it comes to the gameplay and graphics. So games like the New Super Mario Bros 2 for the 3ds or 3d Land were really nice for the 3ds. I'll never forget playing Super Mario Bros 3 though :D Never!

Hard to decide but I am going with newer games with the beautiful graphics and techniques and new power-ups, to me that is what a true mario game should be! It just feels right and the plots of the newer games are so intresting if you look into them a bit! :D

To be honest, both a great. I love the way the old ones are, they're classics, gotta love 'em. They're great, and have a good basic idea of what Mario is like. I especially love SMB3 and SMW. Overall, the old ones are good games. Now, the new ones on the other hand, are different. They're great, with more features and better graphics. I love both. I gotta say though, I like the old ones better.

I like retro since I grew up with it and I still occasionally play Super Mario Bros.2 and 3 for the DS Lite.
Still enjoyable, in the modern version as well I liked 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros .2 Golden Edition or something to that name. For the Mario Kart series I gotta say the newer ones only because they have new several features although MK Double Dash was GREAT :)

All Mario is good, both modern and retro. We can see this in Super Mario Maker. I still play Super Mario Bros. from time to time, and it's really enjoyable. The same goes for the New Super Mario Bros. games. But to be honest, Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 are still better than New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This is just my preference, but I take favor to the original.

New when they combine retro with new features, like super mario bros u.
wall-jump/spin-jump = old; midair-spin-thingy = new

I would say the modern Mario games are better. This is because in the modern Mario games, you can pick up things like shells and springs and throw them. Other differences such as ability to wall jump alsp make the game a whole lot more fun and easier.

Retro Mario Games like Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 never get old for me whereas playing Super Mario Galaxy might get old because there's only a certain amount of levels and when I'm done with them I never want to go back to them. It's more of a personal preference but I prefer older games because I'm more than likely to play them again even if it takes an hour or more to finish them. Sure I'd love to play Super Mario Deluxe (Lost Levels portion) just to rage at it rather than struggle to find a Green Star in SMG2.

i would say retro mainly because that is what i first had used so gameplay is also just fun

This is an easy choice for me because i like new games because they baicically are an improvement on the previous game. Newer is better to me because everything get improved. The graphics are normally better. The story mode and multiplayer are normally 5 times better. So yah everything is better newer.

Both has their differences. The retro is a classic were everyone can play and enjoy, the new one has many more items that the retro one and can be played by 4 players "new super mario bros wii" although the retro is a classic. So it is also considered as very entertaining. An example of this is "Super Mario Maker" that showed that the retro game of the mario franchise can be as well as fun as the actual ones.
