It really depends on the branch of players.

For the casuals, it would be Kirby (almost always him), Bowser, Ganondorf, Little Mac (>.>), etc.
For the semi-casuals, it would be the general mid-tiers like Link, Mario, Ike, etc.
For the competitive players, it would be the high tiers within the specific game like 64 being Pikachu, Melee being Fox, Brawl being Meta Knight, and Smash 4 (currently) being Sheik.

Though I suspect the majority of the crowd for Smash is casual players so probably Kirby.

That's only if you play with unfair rules and in by abusing luck every time. I know by experience that on the contrary, you can build a friendship around Smash (and by the way, I say hello to that friend I was playing Smash with every evening last year )
