This isnt official or anything, just my thoughts on why the Gen 5 series was made.

Okay first we can pretty much all agree it was bad.
Like really bad.

Anyway, this game was made for the DS even though the 3DS was already released.
This probably was because BW started production after XY was being made, so in other words, XY was being made before BW.

So why was it made? Well XY was kinda like a new start for Pokemon, so it made sense to make it on a new brand new console. Black and white was pretty much the "placeholder" for the franchise, making sure no one forgot about it.

Well, those are my thoughts. What do you think? Thanks for reading!

Hm, I actually didn't know BW started production after XY. I don't really have an opinion on BW, to be honest. There are many aspects about it that I don't really like i.e. the rivals (UgH! Cheren and Bianca...) and some of Pokemon designs were just kinda not good. But, in the same fashion, some things were...sorta good, like one of my favorite Pokemon, the Reuniclus line, came into existance.

I felt like BW was sort of hit-and-miss but, if what you say is true, why did they make BW when XY was already in production?

In my opinion, BW was much better than XY.
The plot really piqued my interest, with all that "chosen ones" story and the DNA splicers...
The region itself was cooler...
Well, just my opinion.

Gen 5 was based off original concepts from Gen 1, like having a group of friends where one of your friends is a rival, D/P/Pt didn't do too much about this concept but Gen 5 made the story deeper and more enjoyable then doing everything alone.
th
The story was great, with a unique style of a villain organization that is honestly more deep than any other main series criminal organization. With inspiration from PETA and even better they get control of the legendary. Only someone from the GCN game Pokemon XD using high tech devices could do that beforehand so that was neat. Updated graphics and animated sprites was another plus. Most of the Pokemon in Unova were new, which is alright but the art style is questionable. The music was great as always, but is higher up on my charts than some of the classics. The cutscenes were neat, the endgame content was lacking, but the environments made it feel like a completely different game. Some new music might get on my nerves a little in the beginning areas of the game, but it's a good mix and has some neat instrumental effects. It seems like the generation that gets the most hard times in my book since BW2 and the graphics sorta messed up some reputation Pokemon sorta had in the earlier games. Not having played BW2 I would rate this generation a 7.7/10 because it leaves a cliffhanger in the story and I wouldn't want to play this game for extended periods of time, however I might want to restart if anything. Maybe the moving sprites were enough to amaze me when playing the first time, but really the glamour is in the games thoughtfulness and very aged environment, sort of like in the Orre region. I do like how the 3DS got a Unova Pokedex to look up moves and stats, but now that I use the internet more I really don't need the 3D Pokedex.

Quick edit: it wasn't awful as a game, it was pretty bad as a POKEMON game, and that makes a big difference

It's still a Pokemon game. Gyms were spaced nicely, there's plenty of Pokemon to catch, there are a lot of strong trainers to face, there's online play, and the competitive game besides the Legendaries was way deeper and full of new threats and items. And Kyurem is the only real testament to being a trainer by catching it. Volconrona maybe too. Som Pokemon designs were also really good like the Bug types, Ferrothorn, the Dragons, and basically a majority of all the Pokemon in the game besides the starters.

I don't think Gen 5 was bad for a Pokemon game/generation. It was pretty fun, since I got to explore the new Unova region, battle NPCs, and do lots more. The game was pretty organized, and had a nice plot to it IMO. The moving sprites and all the new features made the game pretty interesting.

Overall, Gen 5 is a pretty good generation IMO. You have your opinions, I have mine.

Well, the story was better than most if the games, but I didn't like the whole layout and the Pokemon weren't fun to play with.

I actually still believe that B/W were the second best Pokemon games in the entire series after the originals, and would have been even better than them if it had slightly better pokemon. The music was better than any other, the story was quite a bit better even if it started fizzling around the middle, gym designs were pretty cool (that dragon one comes to mind), the improved animations over D/P were impressive and the online gameplay was semi-functional. Altogether it was pretty enjoyable for me.

What if Nintendo intentionally made Gen V awful so that the reboots (when they eventually get made) would seem amazing in comparison? ;)

Note: I haven't played B/W/B2/W2

My favorite were Diamond and X so far

Yeah, I wouldn't say BW was bad; as I said earlier, I felt neutral about it but, one of the things that kinda annoyed me was the amount of times your friends/rivals showed up. Like, they showed up back-to-back-to-back to the point where I was like, "Guys, if you're going to keep interrupting my journey every five minutes, why don't we just travel together?" I would just be coming from a gym battle, wanting to heal up and head towards the next destination, then there's Cheren and/or Bianca slowing me down. Or N, he was there too :/

I liked the Blue/Gary approach where you have a set rival and they showed up at measured intervals. Like, how many times do you even fight him? Maybe, 8 or 9 times with an optional fight throughout the game? He shows up, we fight, he drops a piece of info and then he leaves--straight to the point. This probably sounds like bias and, I guess it is, but when I'm playing a Pokemon game, I'm not used to the story taking more than four or five minutes to make itself known when all I want to do is catch/battle/train Pokemon and fight gym leaders.

That's also why I like R/S/E, the story was simplistic and it didn't really show up until I had seven badges and not much else to do before getting that eighth one. I think Diamond/Pearl was the same way, you don't have too many interruptions in Barry and the bulk of the story takes place when you don't have too much left to do when it comes to battling gyms and trainers. As for XY, I didn't mind having Calem (I played as a girl) or even Shauna there but Tierno and Trevor didn't really do much and adding them in just kinda...annoys me a little too. I don't think they showed up as much as Cheren/Bianca/N but...yeah.

So, I feel that a Pokemon game can have a good story but, at the end of the day, I play a Pokemon game to capture and battle creatures, not to hear some morality-type stuff when I could go play a different RPG for that. I don't mind having rivals/friends but don't keep shoving them in my face when I have other crap that I want to do. And that's why I haven't really finished BW because the story dragged on and I guess I'm not used to that in a Pokemon game where I just want to battle and get going to the next destination :/

I do believe that the 5th gen games had some good things about them. One of my favorite and most used pokemon comes from this game. I liked how the gyms looked like. they were pretty cool. B2/W2 were really cool since there was so much to do after the Elite Four. And the fact that you started the game in a new town was pretty cool as well. The pokemon in the gen were pretty strange imo but at the same time i liked them. I also liked how N was in the game and how there was a castle at the end of the game. They're mostly small things but i did enjoy them c:

I hated gen 5, worst games, worst anime..but in all honestly, nobody would ever forget about pokemon. To be honest, They didn't need gen 5, the plot of gen 5 could have been combined with the plot of gen 6 to make one super awesome game for the 3DS.

I consider Black and white 2 to be one of the best games in the main series, since the story was much better and there was so much to do. Original Black and White were OK, but still fun games. (Though the post game difficulty spike is quite mean)

Speaking of post game, I found it quite easy. Especially if you had super effective moves going up against level 70 Pokemon in Nimbasa City and you had levels varying from 50-60. The competitive battles with the Gym Leaders were intense (just as fun as Gen 4, however Gens 3 and 6 were far too easy). The difficulty for this game was perfect considering all the options for Pokemon you had.

The game was made just like any other pokemon game but like this time when making it Nintendo wasn't feeling the flow and maybe they just wanted to get money quick.I do find the game easy though and I did enjoy getting the shiny garchomp.

There are many reasons why I don't like 5th gen.-
1. The gyms are hard to spot now as they have different buildings
2.You only get 5th gen pokemon before defeating the league and I hate most of the 5th gen pokemon
3. I don't like the music (except Skyarrow Bridge and Castelia City which are my favourites)

Because of this, 5th gen is very disconnected from other gens

Huh, I never heard it began development after X/Y. Do you have any sources?

Anyway, I don't get the hate for Gen 5. They wanted you to use new Pokemon for once. I can respect that.

Region itself tho was awful and the story sucked imo
