Why is there never a Dark Type Gym?

One of my favorite types of Pokemon are Dark types, but for every generation there is never a gym leader that specializes in Dark Types. There has been Elite Four Members, but no gym leaders. With the abundance of types and with every other type being represented by a gym, my question to you why is Dark the only one left out? What is everyone's thoughts.

The Dark type is easily the most OP type there is! It has tons of good attackers, supporters, mixed and so on, as well as tons of good moves WITH really good secondary effects, lots of support moves and so on! It's too strong to put in a Gym early on, but for later on, there are other types, with more bulk, that would do a much better job at battling, like Dragon, Fairy, Steel and Ice, leaving little room for it, as a Dark type expert will need to have both offensive and support moves, which is impossible due to the low AI of the Gym Leaders. However, when it comes to the Elite 4, the Dark type is perfect! They have a much better AI than the Gym Leaders, allowing for better strategies and battling! Additionally, facing something this strong anywhere but in the Pokemon League, wouldn't be as satisfying to beat! What I would really like though is, not a Dark Gym, but a Champion that is an expert at Dark types and also with a really strong team!

I totally see your point, but in the entire Pokemon Universe you cannot tell me there is one person who specializes in Dark types that would not want to be a gym leader. Also the repetition and abundance of same gyms is kind of too repetitive. I'm just say mix it up a bit, throw in a surprise.

Perhaps everyone who openly specializes in Dark (after-all seeing as it is called Evil type in Japan it may be taboo in Pokemon culture to specialize in them) is too busy being an Elite Four Member, a lot of my reasons for this though are of course well explained in Tho's above statement

I agree Dark Type are the bomb XD so they are to powerful to be a gym type XE

Maybe someday it will happen :p Maybe a Dark Type gym can be set up to be challenging but yet still not too hard.

The thing about dark types is that most pokemon of dark type are accompanied by a secondary type that do not complement it well. Eg. of such pokemons are Cacturne, Sharpedo etc.
The additional dark type does not complement with its primary type providing additional resistance to more moves but in turn, provides more weaknesses. The only thing strong from dark as a counter to psychic/ghost type. But with the introduction of fairy type moves on some psychic/ghost type eg

Gengar learning dazzling gleam, it just makes dark fall off by so much. The old no weakness sabeleye and spiritomb now faces the threat of new weaknesses completely throwing dark type usage off.

One factor to why there might not be any Dark type gyms is because Pokemon hasn't really created a lot of Dark type Pokemon after each generation game comes. Hoenn was probably the only game where they included a bunch of Dark type Pokemon and just decided to make Sydney of the Elite Four a Dark type user. If there were to be a Dark type gym in the next new gen 7 game then I would also expect a lot of new Dark type Pokemon.

You DO know that currently there are 45 Dark type Pokemon and 26 of them are final evolutions, many of which have megas! The reason isn't how many Dark types there are, but rather they are far too strong to be in a Gym! They even get two pseudo-legendaries, Tyranitar and Hydreigon! They also have Weavile, Cacturne, Crawdaunt, Sharpedo, Spiritomb, Drapion, Krookodile, Greninja, Bisharp, Scrafty, Hoondoom, Absol and so on! Most of the entire game's strongest Pokemon are Dark types!

I understand that Dark types are one of the strongest type Pokemon in the game, However that does not mean that there cannot be a Dark type gym. If it's going to be challenging than why can't it be the eighth gym. Dark types need more recognition in the game. Please Gamefreak, Please make a Dark type gym.

Because there's always a fighting-type starter since Hoenn :p

Because apparently Nintendo has to be like, "Dark type back off" but like fam, that's my favorite type. And all the comments of weaknesses and all that apply to ever gym that has ever existed. Nintendo just can't create a simple gym ;-;

Its because nintendo is nice and not dark. Maybe they're dark some times but not dark. Dark is Dark. But there is dark elite fours because elite four is dark. Nintendo is light not dark but sometime dark like in Majora's Mask. Majora Mask is dark and not light. light is light. Dark is Dark. Japan is light. Nothing is dark anymore. But Donald Trump is dark. Iwata is light and he's in heaven. Did you understand any part of this post. SO DARK

If there were a dark type gym it would be over powered since there are some destructive dark type out there like umbreon and tyranitar so i think there might be a possibility for a dark type gym in the future generations to come but a may take some time for the creator of pokemon to think of what pokemon to give the gym leader.

Somebody stating that the IA in the pokemon games is good? NO WAY

I think there are not a Dark type gym because there are not many good dark type Pokemons. Also many of the dark type are accompanied by a secondary type, eg Sharpedo like even electric and grass type attacks will be super effective on it. But there should be a dark type gym it is a really cool type.

There are some really good dark type pokemon, just not as a type alone. I agree with some of the earlier posts how dark types are a bit overpowered. But a there aren't really any good solid dark types. Like saybleye, he doesn't have a very good attack stat., but hes really tanky and a good supportive pokemon. He also doesn't have many weaknesses, except for fairy, making him hard for some to kill.
