If a king abdicates the throne when his kingdom is suffering from famine, people will remember him as a weak b******. Unless he did it if they rallied against him, and I don't see Nintendo fans doing that.

In simple words, he shouldn't resign yet. Did Kaz Hirai resign when the PS Vita wasn't a flying success? No, and now he's comfortable again. Perseverance I tell you.

Err... Iwata has been the CEO at Nintendo for quite a while, and, even with all these infos, I doubt that he will stop working for Nintendo.

As the website said, he guided Nintendo, through its successes, and through its failures as well. So, if Nintendo's still alive, I don't see why he would go away. He could still find another way for the WiiU to be sold (excluding prices cut).

More, the WiiU sure have poor sales now, but it will increase, as Super Smash Bros. 4 and Mario Kart 8 are on the way.
As @Spinnerweb said, Perseverance is a virtue.

So, I would most likely end my post with this message:
Go Nintendo ! Give the WiiU games that will increase its sales !

Low 3DS sales? After last year? I think not. The internet is always spewing crap like this.

"The CEO went so far as to stress that it was his commitment to hit the target, and it was widely interpreted that this meant that he would step down in the event that the company fell short."

I remember Nintendo Life had the same "interpretation" and they were widely criticized for reading well beyond what was actually said.

Are you kidding me? The Nintendo 3DS is selling insanely fast, especially after last year.

No, I don't think he should resign just because of the Wii U's poor sales, because that would be stupid. Plain and simple.

3DS sales have been great, true, but it still faces competition from mobile platforms (those things in the future will prove really detrimental to the handheld market).

Business restructuring happens all the time. Take Capcom for example where they fired a popular executive, Svensson.

Competition? Mobile gaming and handheld gaming is 2 different things. Hardcore gamers play 3ds games. Not mobile. -.- Mobile gaming is for people who want a game to pass time. Not an actual game with a story. It's insulting to know that you think it's competition.

Yeah and it's called bs. xD Do you really believe that hardcore gamers will go to the app store for crap games? Tell me how those games are worthy of being competition.
Maybe not hardcore, but think of the casual market as well.

Don't believe everything you see online. Especially from a company like Sony. But if people want to choose cheap games that rob them of their money, then so be it.

I don't necessarily believe everything I see online, but this is something that I've seen rather often from time to time honestly. And I wouldn't be the first on this forum to bring up the mobile platform argument lol

So if the downfall of the pc was often written about, would you believe it?

not a good comparison because PC is well-known for dominating the console market when it comes to a lot of games.

So comparing 2 completely devices (mobile phones and handhelds) is ok? Even though they don't have similar specs?

they aren't completely different as they have the same type of environment one would use them in (on the go). Each offers entertainment and the mobile platforms (keep in mind I'm talking smartphones and iPads and such, not just any cellphone here) are able to play games as well. Heck, many of them can emulate older games as well

I think that the 'low 3DS sales' part doesn't make sense - it's selling like hot cakes. It's only the Wii U sales that's the problem.

I'm pretty sure the 3DS is currently dominating the whole video game market, so lets not even mention the handheld market.

And I get that mobile platforms and handhelds have a similar environment, but they are still meant for different audiences. The might affect the sales of consoles slightly, but not enough to call them competition. If that's not enough to convince you, just check what the top selling games on the 3DS are, and think on how smartphones and tablets can compete with them. The only games with which they can are those costing less than $10, and not contributing at all towards the sale of 3DS consoles.

Wii U sales are not bad. Wii U is doing exactly as the Wii was doing at first as far as I am concerned and the big cards such as the new Smash and a proper New Zelda Title are not out yet.

I really think they are reading too much into it. I was once told that Nintendo fired a guy for the Virtual Boy fiasco, but Wii U's situation is not even close to that. I really think Iwata will stick until the end.

Also. I'd like to leave this the url to vgchartz. The idea was that once Xbox and PS4 was out they would surpass the WiiU really fast, well... they still haven't been able to. Just check there in the Global Hardware Totals. Wii U is selling all right. Hopefully Nintendo can return to the profit margin they are used to, but for now they are doing okay.

they already realized the big faults they had with their marketing and are trying to bring more conciousness that the Wii U is a different console as well as bringing some promotions to spark the decision of those parents and gamers that need one final push.
