Yoshi's New Island

Yoshi's New Island is an upcoming platform game exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the sequel to the 1995 game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and the 2006 game Yoshi's Island DS. It is set for a release on March 14, 2014 for North America and Europe. The game has an art style similar to previous Yoshi games, featuring oil painting, watercolor, and crayon-like designs. The gameplay focuses on Yoshi escorting babies, such as Baby Mario, and eating enemies to make eggs that act as projectiles.

Yoshi's New Island will offer players a break from the perils of babysitting with competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes.

Aside from the game's main mode, however, players can pair up for friendly multiplayer matches. We spent some time with two of the game's multiplayer offerings, Flutter Finish and Eggy Pop, during a recent demo in San Francisco.

Like the tale of Yoshi's New Island, both games are simple at heart. In Eggy Pop, we were tasked with egging as many balloons to rack up points within a given time. Though meant to be cooperative, the game sparked our competitive nature. Eggs spewed from a central flower one at a time, and we found ourself dashing in front of our partner to scoop them up first. Once armed, we quickly launched eggs in every possible direction to claim personal victory with satisfying pops.

The endurance-based racing minigame, Flutter Finish, provided us with the actual competition we craved. Players use Yoshi's hover and hold abilities to grunt their way across a coin-filled sky. Dropping off-screen and out-of-sight is inevitable, but the player with the highest score — a combination of coins gained and distance traveled — wins.

Eggy Pop and Flutter Finish recall Yoshi's Island DS, which included five unlockable single-player minigames. In Egg Toss, Yoshi hurled eggs at floating targets, while Flutter Challenge saw players hovering to clear as much distance as possible.

Yoshi's New Island will include six multiplayer mini-games, four of which have yet to be revealed. Players can share minigames with a friend through download play.

What do you think about this game? Are you planning to get it soon?

I really like this game. It seems like a step different from traditional Mario games (I havent played any of Yoshi games). The Multiplayer seems like a nice addition that has co-op and it could be good to play after finishing the main storyline. I love how Yoshi sounds when he is Flying or jumping, and all the graphics and art style are really cute, attractive and colorful. I might pick this game instead on New Super Mario Bros 2, If I do.

The thing I'm most looking forward to is co-op play. I love competing in game like Mario Kart or whatnot, but for a platformer I enjoy cooperating. The Wii spoiled me on that with games like NSMB Wii, Rayman Origins, etc.

Yeah, but if you have a Call of Duty game on the Wii like Black Ops, and MW3, multiplayer is the only appeal after campaign.

But CoD series is not a platformer :p

Ugh!! So much games that I want and so little money! This game is definitely on my long, expensive list. I can't wait to see more of the Multiplayer features.

I would love to have it, but there are games I would love to have even more, and games are expensive :(. Maybe in the future, or if it gets discounted in de eShop :). It's so peaceful, and the music is so calming, and o my gosh those little sounds Yoshi makes are the most cutest noises ever ^_^

I been reading up on it a lot lately and it looks like it'll be just as good as the previous games. I'd definitely pick it up if I had a 3DS.

Nintendo America has launched the vibrant Yoshi’s New Island website featuring additional story information and gorgeous wallpaper art. Among the above features, you’ll also find two trailers and the cutesy-pie intro scene – just in case you missed them – along with the trademark Yoshi melody in the background. Yoshi’s all set for a new adventure come March 14 when he lands on the 3DS family systems – let us know if you will be joining in on the fun in the comments below. You can find the new website, here.

I remember playing Yoshi's Island on the Game Boy Advanced and I loved it. Story plot was really cute and well thought out. Wouldn't mind getting the 3DS version.

I'm getting the 3DS bundle of the game. If you buy it, you pretty much get Pokemon X/Y free so it's a win-win :D

Nintendo is asking Yoshi’s New Island players if they would mind sharing their gameplay data with the company presumably to improve future games. Kotaku says that the first screen you see when you start up Yoshi’s New Island asks you to “Share gameplay data with Nintendo? We will use this info to help develop future games”. Players that agree to share their data will have it uploaded over the internet. ~Article provided by My Nintendo News

I doubt I will get it, but if anyone doesn't plan on registering their game code I'll gladly take it since I can use it to get pokemon free.
