Hurricane: Day 22, Part One
I woke to the sound of burning rubber... The taxi was madly swerving from left to right. What on earth the driver was trying to avoid, I couldn't see, but I was about to rate him worst driver of the year. I glanced around me. My friends were still passed out cold, and so was the wolf. All of our backpacks, and the strange vests I took were still in the back row with the wolf I unbuckled my seat belt to get a better view of the front windshield. What I saw made me want to go back to sleeping and dreaming of being somewhere else. The sky was completely black, except it was only 2:00 in the afternoon. Somebody apparently had forgot to tell the sun to do it's day job, because it was nowhere in sight. A few miles ahead of us, on top of an extremely tall Chase company building, blades of darkness were shooting out everywhere. I thought they may be harmless, until one of them sliced outwards, and hit a building about 500 meters in front of us. For a moment, nothing happened, and I breathed out in relief. Then, as I watched, the entire top of the building silently scraped off, falling towards the street. The taxi driver screamed and swerved down a back road, barely avoiding the debris that was flying towards us. There were clouds of dust everywhere, so thick you couldn't even see 2 feet in front of your own vehicle. We sped down the back road, going 110 miles an hour, and the driver was still flooring it. We shot down the road, and got to an area where the dust was clear. It gave us a beautiful view of the dark blade that sliced into the building directly over our heads, and sent the building crashing down towards us. Just before we all would have been squashed into a little can with the words taxi all over it, golden light flooded down the street. As soon as it hit us, the building hung in midair, falling at us at about 1 inch a hour. It was like time had slowed on only the building, but everywhere else, time was normal. I took the que. I woke my friends, and they blinked in confusion. Jackson tried to look at his watch, but it was so dark he couldn't even see it. Chloë looked confused, but Evan glanced around us, and immediately understood the situation(I'm glad he did) He kicked open the rear door, grabbed his backpack, and one of the vests, and helped Chloë out of her seat. Jackson grabbed his backpack, and kicked rolled out of the seat and landed on his feet on the pavement. I grabbed my backpack, and was startled to see the wolf staring right at me. Apparently, we came to some sort of mutual mental understanding, because the wold leaped out of the seat and waited outside the taxi. I grabbed the other 3 vests, and tossed the other 2 to Jackson and Chloë. We all stuffed them into our backpacks, and ran to the trunk. Jackson tossed me my sword, and grabbed his numerous guns. Slinging the sniper rifle over his shoulder, and putting his magic pistols into their holsters, Jackson shouted, "Run!" I glanced up and saw the building falling towards us faster. Chloë grabbed her knives, and I looked for the taxi driver. He was nowhere to be found, but he had left his driver door open. Apparently he decided to run. I whistled for the wolf to follow, and we all ran out of the alley just in time. The building fell right on top of the taxi. Dust and debris flew everywhere, and we probably would have died if not for Chloë super speeding us away from the building.I glanced at the Chase building. I could make out 2 figures. One had golden light flowing around him/her(I couldn't see far enough to make out the features.) The other had the dark blades flying around him/her. Jackson glanced where I was looking. "It's two guys fighting, one of them looks like he's trying to slow time," he said.
I looked at him, shocked. "How can you see that much, that's like, 3 miles away!"
"Snipers and sharpshooters have to have good vision," he replied.
"I don't care how," Evan interrupted,"But we have to stop them before they destroy the whole of New York."
