Hurricane: Day 23, Part One
It was like he vanished....There was no trace of the guy. It had been 10 hours since we had met Aaron on that roof, battling the "Shadow" as he had called him. I glanced over at him. He was staring out of the taxi window, not saying a word. I wondered what was up with him, and what was up with the way he answered the sibling question when I had asked. The wolf was snoring in the back row of the taxi/Tahoe(we of course had not forgotten he was tied to a fire hydrant, when we got there, he was eating something. I would prefer to not go into the details.) We had called another taxi, and gotten Aaron to agree to come back to our apartment with us, but he only agreed to stay for a little bit. The day had started out pretty much normal, except I didn't really know what normal was at this point. No monsters or Shadow servants decided to go kamikaze and try to kill everybody in the entire city of New York(I wonder if they every realize that they could accidentally kill themselves too....) Jackson paid the taxi driver with a couple of 100's, then we climbed out of the taxi and gathered our stuff. Good thing the apartment we had rented had 6 different bedroom's, Jackson had insisted that he wanted the most space for our stay in New York. Soon, we would have to head back out to our main base in California. As soon as we stepped into the door, I almost collapsed. I hadn't realized how tired I was. I laid back on the couch, and stretched out. Chloë glanced at me, smiled slightly, and went about exploring the apartment. Jackson struggled into the doorway with the dog in his arms. The dog looked like he was hungry. I reached for the remote, but Aaron and Evan both dived for it at the same time. Evan wound up with it in the end, and me & Aaron both accepted defeat and laid back on separate couches again. Evan clicked on the TV, and the first thing that popped up on the screen was News. We all groaned. FYI: 16 year old kids have no interest in what's going on around them, especially when their own problems are bigger. Evan was about to click the button to change the channel, but then the news showed what had happened to New York. A lot of the buildings had been destroyed. Amazingly, nobody was killed, only a few minor injuries were reported. Good thing this had happened on a Sunday, where everybody would be at their own houses. It showed the building and our burnt Camaro, stating that the license plate was burned to the point of being unreadable, and no fingerprints were recovered. We all breathed a sigh of relief except Aaron. He looked at us.
"I assume you guys did that to the building?" he asked.
"Yeah," Jackson said,"Also, do you think I should give this wolf dog food, or just some meat?" The wolf howled when he said meat, licking it's chops. "Meat," all 4 of us agreed at the same time.
"I'll go throw some beef onto the stove and let it cook then," Jackson said. He opened the fridge and grabbed some meat, then threw it into a pan and let it start cooking. Every now and then he threw some into the air, and the wolf went crazy trying to get it. Jackson's phone buzzed.
"The self-driving car will be here by tonight," he said.
Evan held up the remote, about to change the channel, when in the next instant, he was holding an apple instead of the remote. He blinked, confused. The next thing I knew, Chloë was sitting next to me, with the remote in her hand.
"Hey!" Evan protested.
She changed the channel to a romance movie. We all groaned, but she glared at us so fiercely we all decided we had better shut up. 3 and a half hours later, by the time the movie was over, the wolf was curled up on the floor, snoring after having it's stomach full of delicious beef. Jackson sat in a chair, eating popcorn. Evan had grabbed a box of tissues, and was dabbing at his eyes. He handed the box to Aaron, who blew his nose and sobbed. Chloë just smiled. It was almost 7:00 p.m. by now, so we just spent the next three hours swapping stories. Chloë, Evan, and Aaron had all had some crazy adventures themselves. Evan had gotten his powers as he was enveloped in a massive fire-y explosion, caused from some kind of energy wave. Chloë had been struck with the wave of energy while she had been running to save somebody from being hit by a car. Aaron was explaining how he had gotten his powers now.
"The next thing I knew, me and my sis-" He paused, that guarded expression crossed his face again. "I was hit with the energy wave, and the next thing I knew I could distort and control time."
After that, we all were pretty tired. Saying goodnight to one-another, we all went to our separate rooms...
