Chapter 5

Andy woke up to the sound of an alarm clock. He looked towards it to check the time. It's 6:00. Time to- Andy stopped when he realized that he was not in him room. He remembered the events that happened yesterday, and remembered that he was in a base hidden under a lake, and that Pokemon were real.

All that didn't seem to matter. He woke up and tried to remember where he had put his spare clothing, but the he realized that he had no other clothes. I guess I'll keep wearing the same things until I don't need 'em anymore.

It didn't concern him much, though. He felt very hungry, though. I wonder if they serve breakfast here, too. After grabbing his knife, he went to the cafeteria to check. The doors were closed and the lights were dim. A sign on the wall nearby said that breakfast was from 7:30 to 8:30. He checked the nearest clock. It was only 7:00. He still had half an hour to kill. I guess we can wander a little bit.

Not very many other Pokemon were awake. You could see a group of three chatting every ten feet or so, and there were a few teachers that got there early. He said hello and continued onward until he found himself at the gym.

The gym was spacious, and had court lines painted on it. The material was unfamiliar with Andy, although he speculated it had to be some kind of other-worldy material, since this place would have to harbor Pokemon like Charizard who'd blow everything up. In a room close by, he found some training dummies, all stored in there. These didn't look beat-up, though; they looked brand new.

It didn't matter, though. The clock finally struck 7:30. Breakfast was served. The main serving station had changed since last night, but other Pokemon-specific foods were still there. Andy grabbed some of the usual breakfast items and ate them. The food they make here are amazing!

After breakfast, Andy went back into his room. He hadn't seen West all day, but that didn't matter much. He observed his schedule, took his notebook and pencil, and went to his fist class.

At the end of the day, Andy felt very lucky his classes happened to start where he left off in the human school he went. This, combined with no homework, made things a little easier.

He wanted to investigate the gym a little more. Something told him he should go back and check the room again. He put his stuff on the table of his room, and left.

Before he even entered, he heard a girl already practicing inside. He could tell by the high-pitched yelling inside. When he opened the door, he found a Braixen was practicing her moves with the training dummies. She made quick movements from doing melee to switching to the stick that was in her tail and casting a fire-move.

After a while, she noticed Andy and stopped her training. She brushed off any debris from her training and returned the stick to her tail.

"Hey there, Andy! How are you?"

"You already know my name? Did Xander tell you?"

"No. You, me, and West all share the same dorm, but I sleep in a different part of it."

That would explain the extra room I found.

"Hey, have you ever been in a battle?"

"No."

"Well, then, we can have your first battle now!"

Andy was a bit taken back. Did this Braixen actually challenge a person who wasn't quite Pokemon yet to a battle with flame? This didn't seem right.

"I can tell you're worried. It's alright! I've done my homework. If you've shown signs of change, no matter how small, the type of the Pokemon you're becoming will immediately be applied."

That reassured Andy, but for a little. If Andy was indeed becoming a Lucario, that would make him a Fighting-Steel, which is a little less weak to fire than human flesh.

They stood on each side of the mini-court. The Braixen took her stick, and Andy took his knife.

"That's been augmented by Xander, right?"

"Yeah!"

"Okay! Let's do this!"

The battle was not officially underway. The first thing that Andy noticed with this Braixen is that her fire gains more power the more distance it travels. When she switched the Melee, she would go high with her legs, and punch in the chest or stomach. Andy also learned about the Augmented knife. When she got a hit, skin and tissue wouldn't tear, but the Braixen would back up just a little. He also found that when he threw it, it came back in a matter of seconds, making some kind of boomerang effect.

If he were to get hit by fire or a punch, he wouldn't get burns or have anything break or bruise; but his energy just went down instead. Andy had developed a new strategy against her. Long-range when Melee, up-close when wand. After he figured this out, their battle was almost equal. She would pull a fast one and kick, even when her wand was out, and some other tricks.

They were both down to the lowest energy without fainting. The Braixen looked like shes had enough, and Andy could relate. They ended it in a draw, and walked back to the dorm together.

"By the way, my name is Claire! If you need me, I'll be right across from you and West's bunks!"

After that, they met with West, who was spending his time at a Robotics club, had dinner together, and returned to their dorms for the night.
