Chapter 7
I am a Lucario named Andy, and it is my desire to join the Pokemon Rescue Team (or referred to as the PRT). I was inspired to pursue this goal because of my friend Troy, who is a Gallade that works for the team. I want to join because there are Pokeumans out there who need help, and I feel like I am capable of fulfilling that calling.
I'd also like to join because of this weird dream I had recently. I was in total darkness, and a voice called out to me. That voice introduced itself as Jirachi, and it/he/she asked me to help it/him/her to escape from the Pokextinction base. It/he/she also expressed some form of urgency in that plea. So, my plan is to join the PRT to lead a charge to free the Jirachi.
Xander read through the essay Andy had turned in. He read through it, and didn't stop to question about how the Jirachi was able to communicate. When he had finished reading, he put the essay on the desk.
"Yep, that sounds really bad. Not the essay, it was great, but it was the plea that got me to worry."
"Do you know of any reason they'd catch a Jirachi?"
"Yep. You see, Jirachi is the wish-making Pokemon, but I imagine you already know that."
"Yeah, I saw the Pokemon movie."
"Okay, so it's safe to assume that this base is trying to use that power to make some of their wishes come true. How they got that Jirachi is a mystery for now."
"So, can Jirachi grant wishes like Genies can, where you can wish for the most insane and against all forces of nature wishes possible?"
"No. Remember in the movie where Max wishes for 'lots and lots of candy'?"
"Yeah."
"Jirachi didn't use that wish-making power of the genies you mean. It was revealed that Jirachi used teleport on the candy at the nearby stall. However, I do not think Pokextinction is interested in candy."
"What do you think they could use Jirachi for?"
"Energy. Jirachi had the third eye on the belly. As you saw in the movie, it's an incredible source of power. If Pokextinction harnesses that power, it's game over."
Andy didn't like that much. Pokextinction, with the power of Jirachi's third eye, could cause lots of problems Andy couldn't even begin to imagine.
"Now, as that would have to do with the PRT, there are some requirements. We can drop the grade part, as you seem to be doing great already, but it's the battle parts we need to worry about. You have 10 battles to do, and one that I pick. Don't worry about the latter, we need to worry about the former."
The Aggron turned to his desk, and began typing on his computer. He was scrolling up and down on a web page, until he gave a huge sigh.
"Dang it, this is the most inconvenient thing they could do! I'm trying to schedule a private battle, but most of the combatants are off to other bases! We have only six openings!"
"That shouldn't be a problem. I could battle those six, and then battle West, Claire, Troy, and a volunteer for tribute to get the battles in.
"I would, but it's not allowed. I can have you go against the six, but that leave you for in the hole." He paused for a moment, thought a little, and then spoke up. "I could probably have you go against the elite four, though."
"Elite four? Like the trainers from the games?"
"Semi. Unlike those, we don't require prerequisites. They are really, really tough. Only, like, three people have beaten them. More than fifty have tried. Once you go in, you won't be able to come out without waking up in the hospital wing."
Andy could tell that this would not be easy. In fact, he was downright terrified at the thought of how many people have tried. But he had to do it. A mythical Pokemon depended on him to rescue the Pokemon. He had to do it.
"I'll do the challenge. Whatever can get me out in the field the fastest."
Xander nodded. "Okay, I'll schedule the battles. When you've finished those, you can do the Elite four."
Andy stood, thanked Xander, and turned towards the door. Before that, though, he was stopped.
"Here's a secret for you," the Aggron said. "I heard that if you help with gathering the trays after lunch, the lunch ladies will hook you up with extra dessert, but you didn't hear it from me!"
