Bad design and hardware limitations made old games seem much harder than they should. HOWEVER, many old games were intentionally made to be extremely hard, most of which also had the design flaws and limitations others had. Take for example Mike Tyson's Punch Out. This was INTENTIONALLY made with the goal of making THE hardest game EVER, timelessly! On top of that, the graphics, the hardware and the coding were so bad that made the game IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT!unless you used the master game code...
