Personally depends on the console. On the first three generations, I would mash the directional pads and tap A, on the DS family however, I specifically hold down B and press A every time the Ball wiggles. As of now however, the structure of my 3DS has discouraged me from retaining my old habits as I end up pressing B and Y instead...
