I'm pretty upset over all this. I spoke with a rep at NoA an she said there's definitely no release of it for the US and that we can try to change things by calling and having them make a feedback ticket over it. Alternatively, tweeting NoA and starting petitions is another way she said. With her advice I went and made a petition https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-release-non-xl-new-3ds-in-north-america

Woah are you sure? That s*cks. The templates are literally the only thing that could get me to consider switching over. Is this also true for Europe or just NA?

Also true to the EU as well :(

Well if Nintendo does not listen you could always purchase a European one, using shops on the internet it's easy enough to get EU games in the NA region.

I was thinking about importing but I'm not sure if I want to do Japan or Europe. Japan has a lot of exclusive Pokémon games I would definitely buy since it's a sub collection of mine. However, a EU one would be good since I could read it :cat:

If you don't mind learning Japanese then Japan is absolutely better, a lot of exclusives and events, better pricings etc. But well...all in Japanese... If you get a European one; the UK has the most events.

I was really interested in the faceplates... Maybe NA will have exclusive 3DS XL to compensate? I wish Nintendo could just be... fair and consistent with their distribution/marketting...

It seems like they just love to make things unfair. First they acted like they didn't care about Europe and now they do the same with NA...

I really don't get how Nintendo markets/advertise their products. Faceplates were a part of the N3DS' selling points, yet, they don't release the regular N3DS in NA ? What's wrong with Nintendo ? I know that there will still be limited edition XL units, and EU/JP models as well, but region-lock is still enabled on it, screwing NA people either way.

Seriously, Nintendo wants the N3DS to fail or something ?(between alienating 40M 3DS owners, having to pay twice + "we don't trade your 3DS for a N3DS one" + this, you can't say Nintendo's not trying to make it fail or something).

And now NA users are forced to get the XL version if they want the handheld, smooth move, Nintendo. -.-

This way they would have to fork out more money (not ideal for those on a low budget). Nintendo are just trying to make more profit (as if they're not making much money already). xD

sign the petition for the normal new 3DS for NA release, everyone! :sneaky:

Hopefully the NA will also get the Ambassador edition just like Japan and Australia. Which would make it kind of worth it.

I'm fine with the XL, rather get that than the smaller one.

They said, vaguely, that Nintendo of America's 'business decision' was, in simple words, that they think everyone in the US is going to buy the XL model. I can't say I'm surprised. It seems everyone but early 3DS adopters bought the 3DS XL, on every single forum I've been to in the past three years, so this time around they're not going to release a regular-sized one in the US at all.

The face plates were one of the cool things that made me want to get a N3ds :( and now they are not going to be in NA what is nintendo thinking it is not that hard to translate if that is there problem.

I'll go find the link and add it later, but I hear that one reason they didn't do the regular sized N3ds was because normal 3ds sales have gone down since the release of the 2ds....let that sink in for a moment

I think it's not translation problem (after all that is the exact same text as for the N3dsXL) but a marketing strategy. To max out their N3dsXL sales they should remove any products that could replace it, including the N3ds. I wonder why they don't make faceplates for the N3dsXL too? It shouldn't be any more of a problem than making them for the N3ds...:coffee:
