So, which is better, 3DS or 2DS?

Ignoring the 3D compatibility of the 3DS, the 3DS is better than the 2DS generally.
  • The 3DS design is portable (open and close) and is pretty good, while the 2DS design is just somewhat inconvenient.
  • The 3DS is comfortable, while the 2DS is sort of distressing (from what I felt) and huge.
The 2DS was designed mainly for kids who may be too young to use/view the 3D factor, or may accidentally break off the top screen of the 3DS. The 2DS is great for durability, but is just clunky IMO. The 3DS is superior to the 2DS overall.

Definitely 3DS in my opinion. 2DS is like a downgrade of 3DS without the 3D option.
3D is more fun to play with and those AR cards are there for this reason. It is no fun using AR card in a 2D mode.
I also don't like the design on 2DS. The bottom touch-screen is made of soft material comparing to the top screen which might be prone to damage. Unlike gameboys which have only one hard material screen, I don't think it is a good idea for carrying 2DS around in a bag with other stuffs and without cover.

Affordability is a different question though.

Well on size wise I would pick the 3ds but if not the 2ds will be perfect. I had problems with the 3ds and none with the 2ds but since its 3d I kept on getting one but to summarize 3ds is better for size the 3d and the fold able mechanic

The 3ds is way better because it actually looks good and you can close it which makes it portable. You can't even put the 3ds is your pocket. The extra money is worth it.

2ds is the same thing except it doesn't 1) fold 2) have 3d 3)doesn't have the wifi turn off/on thing on the side and 4) the 2ds has longer lasting battery. i think these shortcomings actually show the 2ds is better. oh, and the best thing is that i have a crystal blue 2ds. So it even looks better!!!(in my case)

As you may be able to tell by the price, the 3ds is clearly superior. The 3ds, allow for games to go into 3d(which is really cool) and from my experience with both, is easier to handle. I f i haad to pick a console for a gift or whatever i would 100% go with the 3ds.

I am for the 3DS too because even the XL fits in my pockets while the 2DS doesn't but I can understand parents with two children buying two 2DSes instead of two 3DSes to save money. I don't care that much about 3D but when I buy a portable console, I like it to be portable.

I think it depends on the kind of gamer you are, for example I never dreamed about owning a 2ds but I did dream about having my 3ds xl. I think that for older gamers, the 3d feature without the need of 3d glasses to actually see something in 3d is just amazing and worthwhile

I prefer the 3DS. I like the design more. It's easier for me to carry since I can just put it in my pocket. Plus the fact that it closes means I won't worry about the screen as much as I would with a 2DS.

3ds has a lot of games but 2ds has a rarely amount so 3ds is better in my opinion

What ? Isn't the 2DS supposed to run the exact same games as the 3DS but without 3D (and without being foldable) ?
Or did I understand your sentence wrong (could be, I am French) ?

Not a big fan of the 2DS weird design, however, the 2DS is a lot cheaper, but the 3DS looks a lot nicer :)

I strongly believe that 3Ds is the best. I know, sometimes you have headache when you are playing with 3d for a long time. Anyway you can turn it on or turn it off when you want. I think the most difficult moment to use the 3d is when you are traveling by bus or by car, where I live the streets are awful and you can not play very well. For sure, it is not the same to have a 3d without the 3d rather than a 2d, 3Ds is better than the 2d one

I think the 2DS is better because its cheaper and people really dont use the 3d function on the 3ds. But what disturbs me is the one speaker and the exposed screens, the camera quality is imperfect. Other than that the 2ds is pretty awesome. I have one myself.

I bought my 2DS for $99 through a GameStop sale because my 3DS died and I needed a quick/cheap replacement. A year later, I still regret the purchase and feel it wasn't even worth the discounted price.

The 2DS loses so much portability to me since it no longer has the clam shell design. Even the original DMG GameBoy fits in your pocket better than the 2DS does. As a woman who hates big purses I can never take the system with me since it doesn't fit in pockets or my purses. I'd imagine men have it slightly worse since most don't carry bags on them.

Another issue with the 2DS is how fragile the screens are. It's great the system's body is as study as a tank but it's useless when the screens scratch when you so much as sneeze on them. The system is marketed towards younger kids as the alternative to the 3DS and as a result made a little tougher but they only went so far.This is a problem that could have been solved with the clam shell design or 2 recessed portions of the screen instead of the one.

So yeah, save yourself the headache and get a 3DS be it used or new.
